"Descending" from Tool's "Fear Inoculum" album (2019).
Definitely my favourite song from the album along with Culling Voices. Anyway, 7empest should hopefully be up either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow since it's quite a long one. Guess I'll be covering the entire album after all..
So Descending is not that difficult. Half of it is that chorus riff from the intro which helps. That being said, there are some nasty changes in this song. Some random 9/8 bars to switch up the repetitiveness. I couldn't help but smash up that low D string when the big riff came in the breakdown.

Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : D-A-D-G
Artist : Tool
Bassist : Justin Chancellor
Album : Fear Inoculum (2019)
Song : DESCENDING
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash

Ah descending. I remember a time when it was just a four minute interlude in their live shows. Great job as usual, I hope you can continue doing these covers for a while longer.

I swear I just listened to this and wished for a bass cover with tabs. Are you a psychic or something?

Seeing it isolated like this, Justin's basslines aren't really that complex, but they always sound so huge and prominent in the context of the song, great player and really makes me wanna pick up a cheap bass so I can jam stuff like this.

  • i have the chinese version of that bass and i thought my dropped D string just sounded like shit but i noticed now that you are picking closer to the neck for the open D stuff and when i do that it sounds much better too, the more u learn.. thanks for doing this man

Instead of wringing your hand you should have let it go limp then swing it in a spiral so you will open your third eye and grow 15 arms to play the whole album at once

Saw this live for the first time hearing it. I want to teleport back now that I ve heard it like 50 times. Nice work. Love Justins bass work. Saw an interview with him where he initially turned them down for an audition. He eventually went armed with the bass line for 46&2. Said he didnt think he was good enough to hang with them ....crazy.

Great job Man! This is personally my favorite song on the album! Thank you for what you do and the time that you take to do it, because you have been a huge factor in my development and I am becoming a better bassist! You are there for me with accurate tabs when I have to make reference to certain things! Keep up the work!
