The AH-1Z Viper is the Marine Corps’ primary rotor-wing ground attack aircraft. The AH-1Z attack helicopter provides rotary wing close air support, anti-armor, armed escort, armed visual reconnaissance and fire support coordination capabilities under day night, and adverse weather conditions.

The AH-1Z Vipers is fielded in Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadrons, or HMLAs. Detachments from the HMLAs are deployed as part of Marine Expeditionary Units to support ship-based amphibious exercises and operations.

If you've ever been stationed near the "chop" of the old two blade, you know how quiet the new rotor is. It was always badass, just glad to see and hear the updates.

I flew the AH-1 in Viet Nam, 1968. I'm glad that they are still getting the job done. Amazing aircraft.
  • I absolutely love working for Bell!! Built the cuff assembly’s that attach the blades to the viper! Inspected hundreds of the main & tail rotors also! Such a wonderful company 💯

I appreciate the engineering excellence of Bell. My father flew the hueys in the 1970s and into the 1980s and if the didn't function as well as they did I might not be around today.

Worked on and flew cobras for the first 10 years of my military career. But I'm here to tell you after being an Apache mechanic the ah1 Cobra is not the most sophisticated weapon system in the air among all the rotary wing aircraft.

Been working on the new platform for a while. It is quite the machine. My favorite thing is being within twenty feet of a takeoff and feeling the raw power of its rotor wash. I have the utmost respect for the men and women who fly these constantly. It’s tiring and taxing as they do it so well. Don’t even get me started with the maintenance crews. Talk about hard workers.

Best narrator voice on any military channel on the internet. That is because the narrator appears to be human. In any event, this is fabulous narration.

"It's the only helicopter with fully integrated air to air missiles" Literally all modern attack helicopters can carry air to air missiles.

The fact that I saw a few of the Marines I worked with makes me happy and sad at the same time. Sad that I won't see them again but happy that they are doing good.

It's amazing how the legacy of the legendary Cobra lives on!

It’s crazy this this helo has basically been flying since Vietnam. Updates and upgrades go a long way, B-52 are a testament as well. It’s also crazy how versatile it is, being so much smaller than many other attack helicopters. How does it hold onto all that advanced technology?
  • Seeing the AH-1Z Viper work is a true work of American firepower. Nothing can compare.
  • It’s been proven time and time again that the AH64E is far superior. The latest test was performed by Bell and Boeing in Australia. The Apache won yet again.

Watching Venoms and Vipers flying together is incredible. One reason why I love living near Camp Pendleton. :)
  • The AH-1Z Viper is a beautiful helicopter, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the new helicopter.

I was fascinated because I saw the Bell 409 the Magnum PI helicopter in this helicopter with the four blade it was quieter and it was able to even fly in proximity of tornadoes

When I was in the Marine Corps in 1980s, we had AH-1T.. It was awesome to see it come in for an air support. I used to watch from the FO position.

Was a crew chief back when we only had huey cobra and kiowa all two blade main rotor still great aircraft. Had a great time working on these and flying in them. Was a Kiowa crew chief but crewed huey also. Seems like the marines and navy are the only be a still using these modified cobras. But they are tanks of the air.
  • @Dra741
The 4 bladed rotor was first recognized incredibly with the Hughes 409, you could fly in the proximity of a tornado and still have stability and even look at the tornado and fire around it, it was amazing but the composite materials that these kids are cranking out now it's amazing
