Watch to see how you fit a large cargo ships into a small UK estuary harbour. The whole operation took about 25 minutes just after high tide, compressed into 5.

Cargo ship: DOLFIJN
Date: 25th June

Flight undertaken using Art 16 maintaining VLoS

Exceptionally talented skipper and the tug helping him with directions. Beautiful place to live, visited many times.
  • Excellent maneuvering in a confined space . Nice to see competent ship handling.

I live here and it was really interesting seeing not only the ship docking but the town from this perspective. Beautifully filmed, thank you.

WOW The Captain knows how to handle that ship. That was a lesson in handling a ship. 👍 So smooth it almost didn't look real.

I used to work there. In the days before bow and stern thrusters made that turn relatively easy
  • For the many years we have been going to Shaldon to meet up with our good friends and spend a long weekend in the pubs and restaurants in Shaldon and surrounding areas. The pubs are well known to our very good mate and his family, who lives in the village of Shaldon. One night a few years ago at closing time we left the London Inn or The Ferry Boat and saw this ship straddling the harbour entrance ... it was stuck fast...... with a lot of verbal assistance from the sixth of us !!! the Lifeboat and the Pilot boat also assisted us, in eventually sorting it out. Its a very fierce current. We received no recognition for this!!! We will be down there again on Friday. See you then Kevin! Great place Shaldon. My Uncle Case was Chief Pilot for Rotterdam, busiest port in the world, he would have greatly appreiated this seamanship, as would my dad, Commodore of the Texaco Fleet.
  • As a captain of a similar sized vessel but never having been to Teignmouth I found this very interesting. Thank you for the upload.
  • Used to work for a firm called Bibby's at Dunball on the River Parrot in Somerset, the grain boat used to turn by driving the nose into the mud bank, then let the current drag it round before reversing out to moor up at the wharf. First time I saw it, I ran off to tell the manager it had crashed. 😁

I used to holiday there as a kid & was always on the dock fishing , i have seen that so many times , the pilots that go out in all weathers to bring those ships in are so brave , sometimes in huge seas

Massive iron ballet there! Cheers to Captain and crew for the performance!

I am sure the skipper is very talented, but it’s probably equally down to the Pilot ! The boat is ‘light’ i.e. coming to collect cargo which will probably be China Clay bound for Holland. Fantastic drone photography, thank you for posting 👍
  • @kam70111
Beautifully carried out and the Captain did walk his stern twice.
  • @Ozbert
Well done there by the skipper. Spun that mother round and lined her up beautifully. ; - )

I live in teignmouth and did. see this boat entering
  • @6r4metroman
I have to agree, excellent manoeuvering 🙂
  • @MikeFloutier
Wonderful drone footage, thank you! 🚁🍾❤️

It is an amazing site to watch in real life. The current in the estuary is really strong, so I should imagine entering at the right state if the tide is critical, otherwise they will end up aground on the Salty
  • Very good job that i read that the video is speeded up , as watching a Ship of that size , going at that speed , into our Local Port , Teignmouth , caused me concerns ; I have resisted taking any offer of a Mooring in that stretch of the River , owing to some near misses and an accident or two ; many thank for posting
