In his talk, Andrew aims to promote chemistry as the science of remarkable changes, which are often overlooked yet so important in our everyday life. And he does it brilliantly by performing an incredible series of 25 experiments in 15 minutes, totally amazing the audience (who rewards him with a long and deserved standing ovation)!
Andrew Z. Szydło is an internationally acclaimed chemistry teacher. But he’s definitely not the typical chemistry teacher you would expect…
He holds a PhD in the History and Philosophy of Science from UCL, and is an expert on the history of alchemy (his 1994 book ‘Water Which Does Not Wet Hands’ is considered to be the standard reference work on the Polish alchemist Michael Sendivogius.)
But his polymath spirit extends further: he’s a violin, bugle and accordion player, as well as a professional photographer. Throughout the years Andrew has wowed audiences all around the world with his pyrotechnical approach to teaching and demonstrating chemical sciences on stage and has appeared many times on TV. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

When you try to squeeze in the entire curriculum on the exam

99% of ted talks: how to be a better person this guy: SCIENCE SCIENCE SCIENCE
-
At the end he's like a professor who realizes the lecture is about to end in 5 minutes but he still has things to teach for 10 minutes.
-
Nobody talked about his speaking skills which are out of this world? Mind boggling.
-
He should do a talk about breathing technic when talking nonstop for 15 mins.
-
He just did more experements in 15min then i saw within my whole time in school.
-
The gradual increase in the energy of his talk along with the increase energy of the chemistry is absolutely brilliant. Went from changing liquids to explosives! Fantastic!

He used to teach chemistry at my school and he was known as a bit crazy. He used to explode helium balloons multiple times a year. We'd be sitting in a lesso , hear a loud bang and everyone knew it was Szydlo. Not sure if he still teaches there but he was definitely one of the most loved teachers. He used to call everyone "old boy". He wasn't actually the best teacher but it's not hard to see why, he was so excited by what he was teaching he often strayed from the syllabus.

This man looks like science.
-
How to sell chemistry to kids: 1. Make things change color 2. Make things expand and contract 3. Make things explode
-
I got the impression this man likes his job..
-
I loved how he was calm and composed in the beginning, and became chaotic towards the end, as if the experiments increased the energy of his molecules ;)

Ted: "Hello Dr. Szydlo, would you like to come to Newcastle and show us one of your Chemistry Experiments?" Dr. Szydlo: 14 cups of coffee later "Yes and I will do 25!"
-
"Dammit, thats adding an extra 3 seconds onto my talk!" Hilarious!!!! Lol
-
Dude - if this man taught me in science class, I think I would have intentionally become a scientist. That ability to simplify, humor and teach - is rare. Thank you sir for an insightful 15 minutes.
-
Exactly the reason why a professor makes chemistry so fun! He's like Archimedes!
-
@15:27 The cameraman has nerves of steel. Didn't even flinch.
-
4:00 - "one of the golden rules: when you have liquids which are boiling - never-ever put them into containers which are tightly sealed. And that's precisely what I'm gonna do now!"
-
Definitely sound like a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Superb energy! This man has the energy of a 15 year old boy. We must learn and get inspired from him apart from his wonderful demonstration!
