What is the story of King Viserys I Targaryen? How does the House of the Dragon character differ from the Fire and Blood character? Which is better?

"A Song of Ice and Fire (commonly abbreviated as ASoIaF) is an ongoing series of epic fantasy novels by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Martin began writing the series in 1991 and the first volume was published in 1996. The story of A Song of Ice and Fire takes place in a fictional world, primarily on a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east, known as Essos. Most of the characters are human but as the series progresses others are introduced, such as the cold and menacing supernatural Others from the far North and fire-breathing dragons from the East, both thought to be extinct by the humans of the story. There are three principal story lines in the series: the chronicling of a dynastic civil war for control of Westeros among several competing families; the rising threat of the Others, who dwell beyond an immense wall of ice that forms Westeros' northern border; and the ambition of Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter of a king who was murdered in another civil war fifteen years before, to return to Westeros and claim her rightful throne. As the series progresses, the three story lines become increasingly interwoven and dependent upon each other."

"House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen Conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons"."

    The Emmys robbed Paddy Considine
  • @MiamiGameHunter
When your performance is so good that George R.R. Martin himself praises it by saying your depiction is better than the version he wrote in the books. Paddy was absolutely robbed by the Emmys, but getting that kind of praise from George is a prize in of itself.

The real Viserys is obviously Viserys II, the greatest king Westeros has ever seen.
  • @MrTVintro
HotD really puts in perspective that Roberts kingdom is in severe decline.
  • Fun fact: George himself said he prefers patty constantine's portraile to book viserys and that if he ever rewrote fire&blood viserys the 1st would be similar to Patty's portrail So essentially show verison>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>book version
  • How they handled Viserys in the show was actually really smart. It's one of the changes I think were clever and made the experience much more enjoyable. He went from a budget Robert Baratheon to a truly complex character who just tries to keep his family together
  • Paddy's portrayal of Viserys was so good, GRRM wanted to revise the book version of Viserys.

"refusing to be reminded of GOT season 8, alicent instead misinterprets him as naming Aegon as the heir" 😂
  • Paddy wasn't the Viserys we deserved, but he was the Viserys we desperately needed. He'll forever sit on that little iron throne in our hearts 👑
  • I propose Lord Haven launches a hard iced tea line, called Vissy Tea. You're welcome, m'lord.

I would only disagree with your statement that Viserys' and Alicent's marriage has no love. We can see this demonstrated through their actions. Alicent personally provides tender care for Viserys' conditions for many many years. Viserys listens to Alicent, trusts her counsel, and affords her a lot of power. He also clearly enjoys her company, and she is supportive of his Warhammer obsession. She even fixes one of his dragons.

In F&B you get the perception that Viserys is just a people pleasing oaf who doesnt notice any of the friction going on and doesnt take anything that seriously. And so I like how show Viserys is more nuanced. At his core he does want everyone to get along and is wise but his problem being nobody takes him seriously because he is too forgiving and is not assertive. He can command that people act a certain way but they ultimately keep doing what they're doing

Viserys was one of the best changes in HotD alongside the new Alicent and Rhaenyra dynamic
  • @fraliexb
6:15 slightly wrong, the children would be born as Velaryon but when they took the crown they would take the Targaryen last name while they ruled.

9:34 (inserts the iShowSpeed meme of him smiling and nodding his head) I love whenever you name off the Targaryen family wreath
  • Show Viserys is definitely the star of the first season. When he banished Daemon for the first time (for context he weilded blackfyre the family sword from Aegon the conqueror time) he changed his hand grip from holding it in a kinda like a walking stick to a grip of dueling in the first episode. He was prepared at that moment to fight daemon with his kingsguard. Obviously pushed to the limit Viserys can make his point clear

The love the family breakdown 😂 at the last dinner
  • I'm still perplexed that this channel doesn't have significantly more subscribers. Your production quality is amazing.
