  • An important hand signal at a four-way stop is to raise one middle finger in a direct gesture to the other drivers. That will let them know you are friendly. This may also be used on freeways as well or anywhere you are looking to make friends.

The rules stated in this vid are how Americans drive, but some of the rules stated in this vid are not technically legal, even if that is how most Americans drive. For instance; It generally is not legal to overtake on the right while on a highway, but you will never, ever get stopped by the police if you do it. Everyone breaks this rule and probably most Americans don't even know it's a rule. The police do not enforce this rule. At all-way stops it is true that the first car at the sign has the right-of-way, but if two or more cars meet at the sign at the same time, then the car on the right of you has the right-of-way. It is also true that usually when this happens someone will just motion for the other car to go and usually that is ok, but be aware that if the other car has the right-of-way and he waived you through, but then he goes at the same time as you and you crash into each other's cars, the car that did not have the legal right-of-way (car to the left) will be charged by the police as being at fault, even if the other car waived you through. This is one of the more confusing aspects of American road laws. Also, there are a few HOV lanes in America that require three persons in the car to be able to use it, instead of the customary two persons. This is stated on the white HOV signs posted every few hundred meters. Also, in most American cities you will see the HOV rules being ignored by the locals. This is illegal and if the police see it happening, they will usually stop you and issue a citation. SO, even if you see a lot of cars traveling in the HOV lane without any passengers, you should probably not do it if you don't want any trouble.

Great video. I am doing a mini road trip over there next month. I’m from Ireland so I’ve the bonus challenge of driving on “the wrong side”

Curb colors aren't used in all cities; sometimes signs indicate parking restrictions instead. Also worth noting that turn right on red is prohibited entirely in NYC.
  • Nice information for travelers to the USA. Yes, a car is needed in many places. Those 4 way stops are a challenge when several people arrive at the same time.

Happy new year guys. Great video. I drove in California many years ago and the 6 lane highways (in each direction) were frightening. :-)

You don’t pay in advance you can pay at the pump. Just slide or tap your credit card at the pump.

  • it is not based on hand signals when you and another car stop at stop sign at the same time. Drivers should yield to the car on the right.
  • When refueling, it's important to leave your car running and smoke at the same time.
  • People who are under the melting pot nation policy should be very educated and 'different'! They should be very informed on the direction of what to do in the politic and country that they're living in. Esp. for people who are under the supposed-to-do policy in regular politics as opposed to g20-lands, along with Perth, W.A or Vancouver, B.C.

    Sexy driving instructions for Germany.
  • @JS-jh4cy
Which USA land borders are not asking about the covid crap shots coming from Canada
  • I'm glad U.S.A is a melting pot nation that keeps immigrants organized and safe, away from other bad things that immigrants may not understand from start. It shows how you're supposed to do and what parents of their children should understand that's the right thing to do or consider.
