Jock was the glue of that family,. He was damn good actor.

Jock was like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne mixed together a tough straight forward dude

It's so sad that Jim Davis passed away just when Dallas was getting red hot.

JR was the Center of Dallas but Jock was its backbone. Even after Jock died, he played a pivotal role until the end. Jock was a man's man and the only man that JR looked up to and the only person that JR would never betray. Even when JR mortgaged Southfork, it was to make Jock and Ewing Oil proud. Sue Ellen once said "Everything JR did, he did for his daddy. Even persecuting me, it was to show Jock that he didn't lose his grandson". They don't write characters like Jock Ewing anymore. Society is too wussified.

Jock was the man. Spoke his mind and his sons feared him. Saw the Dallas movie the Early Years. Jock was cool and calm.

Which artists today can play these scenes so well ? Extraordinary casting. Jim Davis was a boss. Smart and fit at 70.

I'm just now rewatching the Season 1 mini-series before getting into the rest of the show. Jock was an awesome character. Smart, tough, ruthless, blunt, honest, driven yet moral, quietly generous and absolutely loyal to and protective of his family. Dude was a multi-millionaire oil man and head of the biggest independent oil company in Texas and he loved ranching, drinking, fighting, hunting and finding oil. A man's man and the only man JR completely feared and respected.

I bet a lot of oldtimers were envious of Jocks glorious hair

R.I.P. Jim Davis From being in western films to a night time prime soap opera, his great presence will always be remembered.
