If you are considering The Great American Loop, this boat will interest you for several reasons. First, she’s economical….1.5 -2 gal/hour at 7-8 knots. New Westerbeke 7.5KW generator

Second, she’s very safe. When you run aground, (and you will !) the steel keel has a 1 inch shoe to protect you, plus the prop is enclosed in the deep draft of the center keel.

This is a ‘character boat’ inside and out. The Douglas fir interior has the craftsmanship of a master finish carpenter. Arched beams. Beautiful cabinets. Meanwhile the exterior signals Classic due to a sheer that comes out of working boats of 100 yrs ago.

So, she’s economical, safe, salty, and affordable. She was custom-built and completed in 2013 in Duluth MN, and then did the loop. For the past several yrs she has be cruising the Gulf and currently moored in Longboat Key near Sarasota. The owners are seriously considering another “liveaboard” and must sell the current boat to afford the next purchase. The original build cost was $330,000 (documented in Passage Maker), and available for half that cost. Great value for a reasonable price.

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.

I've watched several of your videos and this Trawler is definitely the best pick of the lot. A steel hulled craft this well built and cared for is rare for the price they're asking.

It’s nice to see a well designed boat that’s easy to maintain but most importantly fit for purpose

What a classic beauty. Perfect for a liveaboard or either version of The Loop. Vid was very nicely done...kudos.

Wow! I saw this trawler out in Sarasota Bay, absolutely stunning.
  • What a cute little bargain of a boat. Perfect for a older couple who is ready to live on the water and enjoy life.
  • This is exactly what I want in a couple of years. It’s absolutely perfect for my needs. This is a boat that you could operate for several years and sell for 90 % of what you paid. Extremely economical!

Great looking boat to do the Loop. Thx for the tour. Good price point.
  • @mrtelechi
Probably one of my favorites. Love it, great review.

Now that’s a nice one. Looks beautiful. And as all metal boats all fitting should be welded. Bolting the deck fittings on a metal boat is as oxymoron. That Perkins is an excellent engine. Will go easily for 15-25000 hrs treated well. I’ve had them do it!

What a lovely boat. It has such a comfortable look and feel about it. It’s just asking for an appreciative owner.

Lovely craftsmanship, looks like a great Looper boat. Noticed that they used an Atlantic Towers tower-in-a-box arch to support the aft end of the hard bimini. Pretty clever. Looks like a similar sized Back Cove downeaster is docked next door. By comparison, that of the same vintage would sell for around $750K, so you're right, this one is a relative bargain.

It would be a nice lil on water condo for weekend getaways. I'd love this for the Bahamas.

Holy moly!! I love it!! Thanks for the video!!

"when you run aground,...and you will"! lol. i would LOVE this boat!
  • I was First LT on a WWII LST from 1959-61. When I saw the beautiful white paint--and especially the safety rails, I had a flashback to the hours of watching my crew chip and red lead and paint. The white is so nautical and beautiful, but what a project to keep a white steel hull and fittings un rusty. It's very unique and the interior is beautiful. I was looking for a ladder from the flybridge to the salon, but no. Not fun in weather. That said, if I were a cruiser-----------------yum.
  • Why did I not see this video earlier! What a piece I would of bought it in a heart beat.
