I think "The Sciences" is their couple name, but I'm not sure.

Happy Pi Day!

"Then it slouches into irrationality when no one is looking." Me too, pi. Me too.
  • @snarglepop
she may say pi has 12 digits, but this video implies the existence of a mysterious 13th digit

This channel is the reason I got into mathematics 10 years ago as a student, which ultimately led me to pursue my current career pathway as one of the “sciences”. Vi, you’ve helped shape the person I became in more ways than you’ll ever know, and I just want to thank you for all you do.

I feel like this was all a very clever extended metaphor that went way over my head.

I shouldn’t have watched this video before dinner. Now I have a craving for tiny triangles and fruit filled circley crusts.
  • My 8-year old son had a blast playing with hexaflexagons when that video first came out. Fast forward ten years and he's in his first year of university toward a physics degree. Thanks for taking us along with you on the ride!

this has the same energy as when my friend and I got into an argument about whether a hyperbola is more circle than a circle or not

I'm not sure if I'm interpreting the metaphor here correctly, but it seems as though this might be the end of the Pi Day series. Which is, on the one hand, scary; something which I quite literally grew up with is disappearing. But on the other hand, it's oddly reassuring. This series has done for me (and millions of others) everything that it could. Its work is - against all odds - complete. Maybe someday I'll make my own such series, and know that someday it too might achieve its goals. Thank you for everything, Vi.

What a wonderful thing to see on my birthday! Vihart is such a delight, I can confidently say she's my idol.
  • @carykh
I love seeing the cute little chemistry characters! The geometry lore is expanding :O

Today I woke up, and noticed "3/14... Isn't that pi day...?" And suddenly these memories of when I was a kid watching Vihart for fun come back to me. I figured, "I wonder if she still uploads?" and came here to happily bring back a slice of my childhood :)
  • I think 4:44 implies that the reason the measurements come out to 12 digits is because, rather than the universe adjusting itself, Triangle's somehow been "eating" the tiny missing piece of pi out of the universe cone-style each time the Sciences make a measurement to mess with their results (and also to help themself become a circle to fulfil their own side of the bet, although that part doesn't work out).

13 years... dang... This series is one of the longest things I've continually watched (on or off YouTube). This might not be the proper forum to express this, but I feel like a lot of my formative years were shaped by your videos. When I was in middle school, your pi videos inspired me to learn more about pi (and tau) which fostered a really persistent love of both math and science that carried through my high school years. In my junior year of high school, you released On Gender, which was probably the first major step in me realizing I was non-binary. Realizing both the ways in which my experience matched yours - as well as the places where our experiences differed - led me to question things about myself that I had taken for granted my whole life. There's not really any good way to properly thank someone for that kind of indirect action - you don't know me, and obviously I know those videos weren't made for me specifically. But they still had a big effect on me and I truly appreciate it.

Damn, this is bittersweet. But a beautiful sendoff to an iconic series
  • you can tell this series was going on for 13 years by the amount of people saying how it inspired them to pursue math/STEM fields from a young age. Likewise, vihart shaped a lot of my thoughts on math from when I was a kid and now I am in university studying math! It always makes me so happy to see a new vihart video!!

I think this has been a very wholesome end to a fun series of videos. There's a tinge of sadness, but I think it's better than letting things run for too long.
  • So glad our beloved triangle has brought us all together on this pi day once again 🙏
  • @nattpich
Most people are saying your videos got them into math but I’m here to thank you for getting me doodling, your videos single-handedly raised my interest in doodles which has now led to art as a career! So great to see you’re still making videos and so glad they’re popping up in my feed again!
