A Photo montage of places and memories from our early years growing up in the east San Gabriel Valley in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's.
These photo's come from a variety of sources - including Susie Peregoy, Clifford O'Brien, Jim Harris, Tim Burgess, Marvin Guida, Royann Maxson, J. David Rogers, Gary Cliser, Charles Phoenix, Dean Cheng, Mary Herbert, Jeannie Rivera, Penny Powers Knittel, Shorpy.com, L.A. Times. Yearbooks from La Puente High School's IMAGAGA from the 1960's... music comes from the early to mid-60's.

Mary Ellen Peck said - This brought tears to me, happy childhood memories. All the places that are still so vivid to me. Main street serviced all the wants and needs both for the children we were and the services for the adults. I can see in my minds eye spears, ellison toy store,French American bakery, places I would go in errands with my mom. Such a big world on a small street. Thank you Gary for keeping the memory alive:)

Cynthia Aguilar-Palas said I agree with Mary Ellen Peck! My mom worked at the Bob's Big Boy, Broadway in the WC Paza, Rick spent many afternoons at the Tumble Weed. We walked to the Food Giant with our little red wagon on a regular basis. Oh My Goodness so many, many more memories!!! I absolutely love this!

Rosanna Palas-Jones said Oh My! By the time it finished I had tears in my eyes... So many firsts. First place buying fabric at Grants, First Taco Bell, first date with hubby at Bahooka. When going to Greece went and talked to Chris at Chris J & B Burgers downtown. Bobs, Mc Donalds, In & Out , White Fronts... Goes on and on... Thanks!

Lorraine Ruiz Thank you Gary Cliser. Yesterday was the Anniversary of my mom's passing. Seeing this today and reliving so many memories filled me with joy. Thank you Gary, for this treasure.

I was born at InterCommunity Hospital in 1966, and my brother in 1970. Lived in Covina almost my entire life. Great memories of great times in this video. Thank you for sharing!

Lived most of my life all over the SGV, fond childhood memories of the 50's 60's and 70's in West Covina, Covina, La Puente, Arcadia and El Monte. Thanks for the memories!

I lived in Baldwin Park, just off of Los Angeles street back in the 60's and 70's. I remember all the restaurants we went to. Northwoods Inn, In and out, Bob's big boys. How I miss those days so long ago. Parents are gone. Life will never have the same magic it once did back then.

OMG !!! How I remember these days. My life summed up in one video. What great times to grow up. Now my husband and I are watching these, giggling and crying all at once. We grew up outside. Never inside home unless you had to eat or come home for dinner. The taste of water from the hose. If it had wheels...it could be a ride. Didn't matter how big a kid you were, you made due. Playing games, hide & seek, kick the can. Thanks for the memories

Being born in 1966, I was very fortunate to experience the 70’s and even the 80’s. Those were the BEST of times for me. That’s my generation.

I grew up in the same state. I remember Gemco. The boy in you're picture in front of Gemco I was about the same age he was back then. I remember you had to show you're Gemco card you walked in the front door so I would wait till I seen a couple in their late 30s or older and walk along side them and they would think I was their kid lol. I see a film like this I used to think lord take me home again but after my mother died I just cry I will never go home again. Thank you for the film there are a lot of warm memories back in that time.
  • Azusa and Rosemead, CA. A great time to grow up in the 50's and 60's ...... never to return ;-(

That radio intro was a real time warp! I thought I was listening to K-EARTH 101 all over again!! I guess it was a little more common than I was aware. Thanks for posting!!

Cried watching this because my Mom and Dad have passed and this brought back so many memories at one time. Best childhood ever growing up here. My parents had season tickets to the Carousel and my first concert that I attended was the Turtles. Went Ice skating every weekend. We rode our bikes everywhere with not a worry . Used to drive up to the mountains after school in HS. Those were the days.
  • Thank you so much for this fabulous video collection! I grew up in the 60's in Covina, lived on Center Street. Seemed like a more innocent time & I am glad I got to spend my young years there. Orange Julius, freight out let on Citrus, all those cool antique shops & hobby store, Covina Park & the plunge & dot candy from the metal snack bar & the big rocket ship, Covina Elementary. So many nice memories came back to me watching this!

This brought back so many wonderful memories.  I was born in West Covina in 1958 and we lived in La Puente until I was 11 - that's when we moved "back to Texas."  I loved Christmas at Eastland Shopping Center and I remember being really small and eating in the diner inside Thrifty Drug. Thanks for these videos - they've helped me reclaim a lost part of my life.

I was born and raised in OC, so very similar specifically for the times. It will never be the same and we can't get it back except for memories like these. TY for that. You'll notice the group of kids in the summer, never wore shoes in the summer till maybe 15 or16. Don't live there now thank God but I think where you grow up as a kid is always home. My best and earliest memories are from there. When the extended family goes to Disneyland (which is a total rip off now) I always go back to the hospital where I was born and the old 'block' even though nothing is the same
  • Great pics. I was born in 1970. I grew up with some of those locations. My mom worked across from the Donut Hole and In-n-Out Burger for years. Ernie’s and The Great Wall were two of our family’s favorite restaurants.

Great video ! Sadly... we'll never be able to return to those beautiful, bygone days.

Wow! thanks for the Memories! Was glad to see the West Covina Shopping Center as I remember it well as a child. This brought a tear to my eye!
