The smaller hole on a gas can is not for letting air escape, it's for letting air in while you pour.

8:21 no the air doesn't escape when you pour gas. The air goes into that hole instead of rushing back in from the pouring end and causes glugging. Pouring creates a vacuum.

No, the loops on a shopping cart are for safety, to prevent people (especially kids) from getting cut on sharp wire ends, where they would otherwise be cut and ground down. They also help in the assembly of the cart. On your own example, they loops don't go high enough to hang anything on. They have been there since the first wire carts were made in the 1800s -- long before there were plastic bags to hang your eggs in.
