Joost lost his parents as a kid, the song is a tribute to his dad. He promised him to make it, and now that he's 'made it', he's ready to leave his past in the past (the burning picture/house).
  • Joost Klein is Groot! He dedicated this song to his father who died when he was 12 years old. His dad taught him that the world has no true boundaries. His mother died when he was 13. He is a HUGE inspiration to young folks, he is such a legend. The world needs more people like Joost. He has gone through so many challenges in life it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with it. Joost Klein is Groot!

The story briefly is: his parents died when he was a kid. His father always said: the world has no borders. So Joost said: then I want to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest one day. After the death of his parents, he started searching for the meaning of life and relief of his pain by traveling, but never actually found it there. He gave people money (psychologists?) to help him, but it didn't work. Until he realized that he still had time and options to realize his dreams. After all, the world has no borders right? And so he did. The burning house represents losing but also moving on, in a positive way. Burning your bridges: no longer controlled by pain + sadness, but focused on your dreams. Without borders.
  • The happy hardcore style is composed/produced by dj Paul Elstak. For example rainbow high in the sky is from his hand (back in the nineties). Joost told his parents when he was little that he would be performing a the esf one day. In the end of the song he says: dad, I made it! It is a tribute to his parents/dad. That is why the song is titled Europapa.

The translation of the song: Europe, let's come together It's now or never I love you all Welcome to Europe Stay here until i die Euro-pa-pa Euro-pa-pa Welcome to Europe Stay here until i die Euro-pa-pa Euro-pa-pa Visit my friends in France Or take a walk to Vienna I want to leave the Netherlands but my passport is gone Fortunately don't need a visa to be with you So take the bus to Poland or the train to Berlin I have no money for Paris So i use my fantasy Do you have a euro please? At he end of the day, we are all human beings My father once told me, this is a world without borders I miss you every day, is what i secretly whisper You see dad... I listened to you. (The end is a tribute to his parents, especially his father, whom he lost at a young age)

Lost my parents in 2020 and 2021.... But this is my anthem right now πŸ™πŸ»
  • Throughout the songs he hints that he is facing isssues after the loss of his parents. The pain in italy being alone in Germany. No matter how much he travels the pain of his parents death is not gone. As he mentioned no one helped him. He burns his house down to end the chapter and accept the loss of his parents. He watched eurovision and promised his dad he would make it however his dad passed away before he could make him proud. The song is fun and happy but the lyrics does hit knowing the background

TRANSLATION OF THE ENDING!!! What he says roughly translates to β€˜At the end of the day we’re all just people, my father used to tell me it’s a world without grenzen (grenzen, means borders but it also translates to limitations). I miss you everyday is what I quietly whisper, see dad? In the end I always listened’ referring to the advice he gave him. He always told his parents who both passed he wanted to go to Eurovision and now he made it, taking after his fathers advice not to feel limited since the world is beyond limitation if you’re willing to work hard for it. You’re welcome! 😊

The lyrics are so typical Dutch slang, almost impossible to explain. It's such a clever song/track. Wait to see the live performance.
  • @margavossen2621

  • @niettegeloven
On the official Eurovision Youtube channel you can put subtitles on. That makes it a lot easier to understand!

You have to watch it to the very end. Then it will make sense. He dedicates the song to his parents who passed when he was very young.
