Type of construction table 601 and NFPA 220 both speak to the types of material you're allowed to use. Both of these tables and sections relate to other sections of the code that speaks to how big or how tall your allowed to build building. For instance code wise you're not allowed to build a building out of wood if it's over a certain amount of square footage. Likewise you not allowed to use would be the building of different heights in concealed spaces i.e. your on allowed to build your Interior partition walls of wood on a high-rise. This table does not speak to those locations it only gives you the definition of the building types. Table 503 speaks to hide insights that directly relates to take 601.These videos are to understand building code

I'm a building inspector for Roy City, Utah. I live in Brigham City. I can't remember how I found out about you. I'm sure it was because I searched youtube for a building code related topic. I'm grateful I found you! Keep up the great work!

I found In IBC Type III is " Exterior walls are of noncombustible materials and the interior building elements are of any material permitted by the code." I am not found " strick with structure it self ( load bearing wall)"!
  • When changing room usage, do you use NEW or EXISTNG of NFPA 101?

If A and B do not refer to sprinklers, then what do they mean? How do you determine if your Type of Construction is an A or B?
