At 82, Pete Best FINALLY Reveals How The Beatles Didn't Get Along.
In 1962, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison decided they wanted to fire drummer Pete Best. They unceremoniously replaced him with Ringo Starr and, in many ways, forgot about Best. Why was he really kicked out? Was it fair? Was it the most underhanded, unfortunate, and unforgivable chapter in the Beatles' rise to monumental power? Do Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr stay in touch with the original Beatles' drummer? Curious about all this? Stay tuned as now at 82, Pete Best finally reveals how The Beatles didn't get along.

  • Pete was a drummer who could play along with a song, Ringo was a musician who knew how to play the song.
  • I saw the Pete Best Band play a gig in Chicago probably 20 years ago. They sounded like I'd imagined the early Beatles sounded when they were a bar band in Germany or Liverpool. There was also a 2nd drummer and Pete kept 4/4 time. The rest of the band were competent and they sounded like music from the early 60's being played well.
  • You miss quoted George Martin. He never said anything about his looks. Looks do not make you a good musician. What he did say was that he didn't want to use him for recording. He said he never asked them to replace best. That was that. Pete best just didn't fit in. He didn't have the charisma. He did not bond with the other band members. And let's face it who wrote all the songs it made the Beatles the Beatles. It wasn't best. When they broke up he went public saying that he was replaced because they were jealous. Look at the Beatles. it had absolutely nothing to do with Pete best looks. If he was so good looking that they had to replace him why didn't his looks take him to the top and surpass the Beatles afterwards? He's embarrassed himself over the years which I'm so sorry to say it is sad. Everyone felt bad for him and he started spewing off some of this BS. He had the right to have his feelings hurt. But it was Paul by the way who reached out to give him those royalties. You guys really need to get your facts straight. There are people that don't know the truth and when you give faults quotes not only are you changing history but it's just poor reporting

Anthology: John said, “We got Pete Best because we needed a Drummer the next day.” As they left for Hamburg.

I just heard some BBC recordings and thought the drums didn’t sound very tight, it turned out it was Pete playing. There’s a subtle difference between someone who is natural at doing something and someone who’s trying to do something. A lot of bands in America in the 60’s used session players in the studio players, George Martin had hired a session drummer named Andy White, that the Beatles could do whatever for performances, but for recording Pete wasn’t good enough. The Beatles had jammed with Ringo and had noticed the difference when Ringo played with them, and perhaps when Bert Kaempfert and George Martin commented that Pete wasn’t quite good enough that was the final straw. I’m glad that Pete has made some serious retirement money from the Anthology project. I think George Harrison was right in his assessment that Ringo was the fourth Beatle, just hadn’t shown up yet! The Beatles catalog and band dynamic wouldn’t have been the same without Ringo!

John Lennon once said that it wasn't because Ringo was a better drummer.....it was because he was a better Beatle. But it doesn't matter now, does it? 1962 was a longgg time ago.
  • Pete Best should consider himself lucky to even play with the other 3 !! Replacing him was the best thing ever in the Music Industry!!
  • The simple fact is Pete Best was aloof mean and moody. The other beatles got on well with Ringo he was a better fit personality wise. 😅
  • SIMPLE BEST COULD,NT KEEP TIME ,,I SEEN HIM PLAY IN LIVERPOOL ,I PLAYED IN BANDS SINCE I WAS 15 YEARS OLD,,,WE HAD NO END OF PROBLEMS WITH DRUMMERS MOST JUST COULD,NT KEEP TIME ,,, THATS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH DRUMMERS, VERY FEW CAN KEEP TIME ,,RINGO WAS A GREAT TIME KEEPER
  • Gotta love AI videos! Why the sudden photo of Barry Gibb? He doesn't even look like Pete Best! 😂
  • Pete Best is a millionaire, and he's more famous than me, so being fired by the Beatles wasn't so bad.
  • Simply, the Beatles would not have achieved anywhere near their astonishing success had Pete remained in the band. Ringo was the final, necessary ingredient, personality-wise (drum-wise, too). As George said "History shows Ringo WAS the member of the band..." After the Beatles, Pete could not, and did not, achieve ANY degree of success - despite his once-direct connection/association with the Beatles.
  • Please Please Me, Andy White on the Trap Kit, No Pete Best or Ringo Starr, Sir George Martin knew what he was doing.
  • The truth is Pete wasn't up to scratch. George Martin said he could play in gigs but not record. Besides according to George Harrison he was moody and would disappear with his girlfriend for days when they were in Hamburg. People say they were jealous because he was good looking - bah humbug ! - I think the other three needed a good musician not a poster. He can't complain he has been making money on complaining about the Beatles for years .
  • I’m glad Best got royalties from Anthology 1. I think I he deserved it. He sent McCartney a birthday greeting, offering to open for him at one gig. While it sounds like it’d get publicity, it also seems unlikely. With all due respect to Pete Best, that’d be like dating someone in high school and expecting a wedding invitation years later!
  • Just listen to Pete's version of Love Me Do,he's all over the place and he changes what he's playing half way through the song,I'm a musician and he definitely had to go,he couldn't even play a simple song like Love Me Do,sorry but that's the truth. Bob
  • When they got a recording contract Brian epstien new that pete was not good enough to play on records maybe he was a little unsure about ringo to
  • 1:44 Best never played with the Beatles again after his firing. He never saw them again. 4:33 Mona Best didn't loan the medals to John. Beatles road manager Neil Aspinal, who was living with Mona Best just picked the medals up, and took them with him for the photo shoot. I'm not sure how Ring got identical medals? No one seems to ever ask where Ringo got his medals that were identical to the ones John wore.
