Relive the 1980's and hear your favorite music blast through the car stereo in this blast from the past. The video is a 26 min ride through the streets of Anaheim and Orange County in November 1988.

What are your memories of O.C.? Can you name any streets? Do you recognize any of the songs? I would love to hear your comments about this time period, the places we visit, and your memories of them.

EDIT 2
I have updated the thumbnail and description to reflect the correct area. The title in the video will however show wrong since I would be forced to recode the whole thing. This is a video of Orange Count/Anaheim, and not Los Angeles as previously stated. See below.

EDIT 1
I realize this video is of Orange County, but since I'm from Europe, I thought OC was part of Los Angeles and thus the same thing. When going on vacation we always said we were going to LA, not to OC even though we stayed there. The title if this video is therefore wrong and should read "1988 Driving around Orange County".

This footage is like one in a million. Who would’ve guessed filming someone’s drive would’ve been so interesting 34 years later. Interesting hearing the radio back then. Most of those songs are classics today.

You have to love how YouTube is the closest thing to a time machine we have
  • The radio SMACKED back then. Making playlists like this today just goes to show how timeless those hits are.

As someone who grew up in this part of Orange County this footage is a piece of gold to me!
  • Can we give this dude filming some credit, traveling back in time to be the first one ever to be RICKROLLED!
  • It's amazing how something so mundane back in '88 can be so enjoyable in '22
  • Maybe I am just sappy and sentimental, but I cried several times watching this… I was born September 20, 1988 in Hoag Hospital, and I was raised in Mission Viejo. I spent 30 years in Orange County and now live in Alaska. Life was really awesome back then. I honestly wish I was born 20 years sooner just to have lived in that world for a little while longer. Thank you so much for posting this!! It meant a lot to see all of these places how they were during the earliest years of my life…

This footage is the closest thing we get to time traveling 🧭❤
  • This perfectly captured what it was like to be a kid in LA in the 80's. KIIS FM even repeated a song within the hour, making the experience truly authentic.

The music is all perfect. When your young you dont realize how great everything is. 💘

Born in 1980, I grew up in this very area. The music, the smog, the trees. That's how Garden Grove, Anaheim, and Buena Park looked. That was my toy r us. This video is amazing and devastating at the same time. These were the best years to be alive.
  • The 80's were awesome. Will never be another era like it.
  • I love the vibe. The 80s and 90s were one hell of a cool time....

In 2022, here we are watching this with longing eyes wishing to be transported to a simpler time and place. Back then, it was just a random video. Now, we’d pay anything for a Delorean ride back there!

I walk those streets everyday, crazy to see what it was like years ago, my dad always tells me stories of when he came to Anaheim in the 80s dope

And this video really shows how we had a lot of different types of cars back then. In 2024 the cars look so similar.

as Andre mentioned beginning of the video westbound on Katella past Disneyland 2:04 katella and dale street, the arco is now a 76 and the mcdonalds is now a cafe (but the roofing is still the same, minus the white bars) turned right onto beach at 2:45, motel on the right is still there today (chester motel inn) northbound on beach for a little while, then on the right would be knotts near beach/crescent ave 3:55 (now Knotts soak city on the east side of beach) knotts independence hall at 4:01 knotts berry farm from 4:06, on the west side of beach back on Katella but now eastboard at 4:27, driving past the anaheim convention center at 4:49, corner of katella and harbor (in the right turn lane), zooming into hansa house which is now an ihop (can still see the triangle shaped roof) south on harbor, carriage inn at 5:10 on harbor and orangewood ave 5:18 harbor inn is now stanford inn but you can still see the same overhang at the entrance 5:28 jack in the box is still there, but the toys r us is now a banquet/event center 5:46 hyatt is still there (harbor and chapman), continued south on harbor 6:30 22 freeway underpass on harbor, continued south past dealerships on harbor 7:45, you guys probably made a right on warner from harbor to go westbound. the shiny square buildings are on warner before euclid passing miles square park on the right at 8:30, still westbound on warner intersection of warner and brookhusrt at 10:14 unfamiliar with the area after, but seems like you guys make your way south towards the water :) thanks for sharing

That was an awesome trip down memory lane. I grew up in L.A and was 22 in 1988 so I got the whole 80's experience.

Driving around and only seeing old classic cars on the road, god I wish time never moved on from this era.
