  • A landlord does not have the responsibility to support his/her tenants. He/she DOES have the responsibility to keep the property in good repair.
  • Never give anyone money without getting a receipt. When the landlord only wants to be paid in cash and he does not give you a receipt that is a red flag.

cash means no tax, the landlord should be caught by IRS

I'm about to retire and my plan was to sell my house and get an RV to enjoy the country in. Now with Covid, housing shortages and incredible rent I'm keeping my paid off house and just staying home. RV parks have doubled or more their space rent. $60-$90. a night. Forget it, I'm staying in my paid off house till l rot.
  • My heart goes out for this gentleman but did he reach out to social services? That place is in no condition for his wife to stay in. Maybe they can find him suitable housing.
  • This eviction moratorium has taken a bad situation and made it worse. I agree they need to crack down on slumlords but enabling people that trash rental properties and don’t pay rent isn’t right either. You really can’t expect landlords to maintain property if they aren’t getting paid either.

Damn when did $1000 apartment become low income home wtf
  • Nice that the officials basically solved nothing but still collect their pay checks.
  • That apartment complex needs to be shut down. Those aren't safe to live in. $950 a month for that? Hell no.

I'm a small time real estate investor, and I can tell you why this situation happens and it happen all the time in these class C,D property. The cap rate for these properties are typically high. Meaning low entry bar/ starting capital to start investing and higher cash flow. But the catch is, it comes with all the baggages shown. It's really a lose-lose situation and both side wanted to take advantage of each other. Cheap rent attracted people with less accountability: Tenants unlikely to be up to date on rent and property owner that only sees investment opportunities. But It is or should be an ephemeral stage for both side as well: renters that start out in their life/down on their luck can take advantage of cheaper rate, small time land lord can start somewhere relatives in expensive. I lived in an off campus apartment for 225 for several year, and a garage room for 350 after I found my first job. I knew about the shitty situation I signed up for, and I just kept my head down and saved for my first down payment in a nice area. A little persistent and understanding goes a long way. For both side :)

My previous landlord always said and thought, “if you don’t like how you’re treated, work harder, and buy your own home.”
  • @maxinef6654
Why the hell do you stay? Get out if it’s not safe.🤔
  • @VB-fo1oc
Cash and No Receipts? 🧐 Might wanna investigate that.
  • No one really knows what goes on other than what the media shows… the landlord literally said they destroyed the apartment so they didn’t have to pay..what happens when he actually fixes it documents it and then they still won’t pay
  • Honestly, if the landlord was so bad, I'd just leave...... getting into a fight with him just wastes energy. In the end, you're out of a home.
  • @pl6935
if they paying rent, the landlord should be fixing stuff. If tenants don't pay rent, landlord shouldn't fix anything.
  • @isartoraplatz
Then move out!!! You don’t even have to stay there why don’t you move out it makes no sense to me.. unless you’re living rent free..
