Do cats miss us when we leave?

I knew Kodi had some separation anxiety when he was growing up, even though Shorty is always around (see, How Attached Are Cats To Their Owners - • How attached are cats to their owners? ), but I figured, since he's almost 5 (36 in human years!) that he had grown out of it. Yeah, not so much. Haven't tried filming him like this in years but this morning I thought I'd just turn on the camera and see. This lil' dude still misses me like crazy the second I walk out the door. He immediately grabs his "security blanket," aka, little green mousie, and paces the hallway calling out. Poor little guy! I thought leaving out his and Shorty's favourite pink toy (you see it in the video) would mean they would have some fun. But cats are obviously very emotional creatures. Wouldn't you agree?

My cat came out from under the bed with a worried look on her face.

Each meow felt like a punch to my heart.

My cat was desperate to find the meowing cat. He ended up thinking it was me, so he started massaging my legs lol

My cat is extremely concerned and searching for your cat now.

Well that was heartbreaking. My Merlin sometimes forgets I'm there and goes through the apartment meowing for me.

Many years ago I went on vacation in the summer time and left my cat home, with my parents. He was an indoor/outdoor cat so he not only was in his own familiar surroundings but also well taken care of with food and activities. When I finally came home he was on the other side of the yard. As soon as he heard and saw me he sprinted across the yard and practically jumped up into my arms to greet me. If ANYBODY ever says cats are unfeeling they're full of shit. That cat adored me almost as much as I did him!

All three of my cats got concerned and ran to me when I played this out loud lol

AW HE'S WALKING AROUND WITH A TOY IN HIS MOUTH LOOKING FOR THE OWNER, IM CRYING

All those people, who abandon their elderly cats or leave them behind when they move house, need to see this (sadly - there would probably still be little remorse). It completely demolishes that myth about feline aloofness. Kodi's clearly not just a cat that enjoys a good yowl - he's looking for something that's gone. And by the way he keeps approaching the door - he apparently knows the thing he's lost went that way.

My cat is searching everywhere for the cat making this sound. She's so concerned.

Yes. They miss us. You can tell when you return by the way they approach you.
-
My cat used to cry like that all the time when I left he'd even look out the window until I left. it was the sweetest thing ever!

“Cats only use you for food, they don’t really love you” Cats do indeed love their humans contrary to popular belief!! I help this stray cat, and he’s obsessed with me and cries when he sees me come home. I love cats.
