Getting into an IIT (via JEE Advanced) is tough. Surviving there is even tougher if you don't explore the opportunities well enough. All the best to everyone reading this and may you achieve all the goals you have in your life!
  • This isn't your average Netflix show. Many of the clips you'll find in this series are likely to be unscripted and plucked off some of my batchmates' phones randomly. Props to KGPians for going all out and bringing the reality to Indian public.

My brother was getting IIT but not his desired stream. So he chose NIT instead and it was the best decision of his life, his words.

I am south korean and my friend recommended this to me and students of south korea are into similar academic pressure since the 1st year of high school till the college and similar is the situation in china and other asian countries. In korea the most number of sucides cases were of 17-19 age of high schoolers. I HOPE THIS CHANGES..

“Engineering is not about passion anymore” damn I’m so glad this is being made. These systems are so toxic and need to be changed!!

The negative point in JEE preparation is that the entire goal of life becomes getting into an IIT, and if one is successful in doing that, he is suddenly thrown into a space of confusion not knowing what to do next! Suddenly life smacks you hard forcing you to think whether you actually wanted all the things happening around you currently or should you have taken a different career path, because anyways you wanted to be an IITian and not an engineer!

As someone who has just finished his last sem, going back home tomorrow, the timing couldn't have been better. A perfect closure. -IIT G'21

Didn't get a chance to visit Kharagpur but from my 4 years at Roorkee, I can tell you that THIS IS AS REAL AS IT GETS about life in IIT.

I’ve seen the IIT’s develop through the decades. Back when I was 18, in the mid-80’s, IIT’s truly had a great reputation (they still do). There were 5 IIT’s back then, today there are 23. Roughly 150000 students gave the JEE back then, now it’s over 20 lakh. The toxic coaching culture that is prevalent today was just not there back then. I’ve seen coaching institutes firsthand and how they group students according to their marks, lay emphasis only on the cream of the batch and let the others figure out things themselves. It’s truly saddening. Coaching institutes have just become dirty money-making scams. Even parental sentiments were drastically different back then. Parents weren’t so involved with the kids, they allowed us to figure out things on our own. Life today is a rat race. Life was truly beautiful in the 80’s and 90’s when I was an adolescent. Sorry if I swayed away and reminisced but I miss life back then :) Cheers 👍🏼
  • What’s depressing is this “IIT dream” is actually the dream of their parents rather than theirs (or even peer pressure in some cases) I mean not all but it’s true for atleast most of them-

"that's why I am frustrated. I am angry with myself" Story of every IITian so far.. Struggling for some illusive success! Thanks Netflix.
  • Timing for this is great. JEE is also around the corner. Parents need to see the reality of these institutions and not just superficial success.
  • This is giving off serious “Engineering is not easy” feels and honestly I’m digging it
  • It's hard to put in words how difficult it is for someone who is not interested in engineering to convince their parents. I did 1 year JEE preparation till the end of 11th std but I was put in coaching under pressure (peer, societal and mainly parental), I did not enjoy studying PCM for 6-9 hours a day. Then the pandemic came and in June, I gathered courage to tell my father I couldn't do it further and I wanted to pursue law. It literally took the tears out of me to convince them I was not joking and harder was to explain my bade papa. Because both brothers thought I was the most intelligent child of the family and I could fulfill their IIT dream. I am preparing for law entrance now. I don't know how much 1 year of preparation will do but I am confident and happy person now. JEE coaching was like a jail for me. I just wanted to convey here that popularity of IITs has usurped many dreams and not all are lucky like me to have parents who would listen a bit.

I was an IITian, dropped out in final year. 3 year's no job, meanwhile 2 failed ventures. Started a venture just to earn my livelihood today it's valuation is $328 million. IIT taught me nothing but to create something which is unique, innovative and which will have their own hype. IIT Kanpur Batch 2008.

"Before getting into IIT can be a dream, but living in IIT will be a nightmare." This kind of stuff we wanted to watch, good shot Netflix!! 👍

Being A KGPian (iitkgp 2015 passout) I am able to relate soo much. Its nostalgia at its peak. Those illus, hall tempo shout out, night outs and soo much. Thank you Dopamine, Camera in shorts and Netflix for this.
