The Ice Pirates is a 1984 sci-fi comedy film set in a distant future where water is the most valuable resource in the galaxy. Directed by Stewart Raffill, the story follows Jason (played by Robert Urich), a roguish space pirate, and his motley crew as they embark on a daring mission to steal a shipment of pristine ice from a heavily guarded planet.

As they navigate through space, the crew encounters a series of bizarre and comedic challenges, including space herpes, time warps, and encounters with eccentric alien beings. Along the way, they uncover a plot by the evil Templars, who are attempting to control the galaxy's water supply for their own nefarious purposes.

The Ice Pirates is known for its tongue-in-cheek humor, imaginative set design, and over-the-top action sequences. The film cleverly blends elements of space opera and comedy, creating a unique and entertaining adventure that has earned it a cult following over the years. With a mix of swashbuckling space escapades and hilarious antics, the film remains a nostalgic favorite among fans of '80s sci-fi cinema.

I recently found this on dvd, it's an old childhood favorite. My favorite role of Bob Urich was as Spenser. I always felt that he is the closest real person to the character and always picture him when reading the series.
  • I saw Ice Pirates when it first came out at a drive-in theater. It was a great night!

  • Awesome video guys I loved this movie I completely forgot robert passed away over 20 years ago This makes me want to watch the movie So I would say this movie is my favorite movie from him❤
  • Robert Urich in his cameo on Cheers was great. He was a friend of Woody.

I thought the guy in the thumbnail was Richard Madden, wondering if he had a kid role in 1984. Turns out it's Robert Urich, who I'd forgotten about for decades. Interesting video.
  • Swat was the 1st show I remember & to this day a good entertainer & was lost to soon way to soon fond memories of his shows.
  • Robert Urich! I loved him in Spenser For Hire. Well, my mom did and I liked watching it with her. I thought he and Avery Brooks made a great team.
  • Robert Urich as Jake Spoon in “Lonesome Dove”. He played a great flawed character.
  • There were scenes in Ice Pirates in which Robert Urich looked like he was embarrassed to be there and I can’t say I blame him. He was inwardly grimacing during the Space Herpe scenes. At ABC gave him some dignified roles back in the day.
