For those who don't know this song was inspired by the Toronto Airport VOR identifier which is KYYZ...Toronto Airport. Rush always flew through there as it was their home. The rhythm in the beginning of the song is morse code for YYZ. When pilots tune their NAV radio to a VOR navigation beacon, they hear the morse code for that particular site. Alex Lifeson was working on his pilot's license at the time and they heard it when they were flying. Neil and Geddy started working with that rhythm and this magical song was born. As a pilot and a Rush fan...this is amazingly cool. Now you understand the video too.🙂

Was not expecting this at all but my day just got better. Can't wait.

Seen Rush play there last concert in Toronto 9 years ago in 2015. I was 18 years old and about to graduate high school. Great concert ever in my opinion.
-
In my opinion this is the greatest song of all times
-
In the words of Rick Beato- This is why 40 years later, we are still listening to RUSH
-
yyz and la villa are masterpieces of music
-
I'm not even that big of a Rush fan but this is undoubtedly the best instrumental rock song in the world. Not a single dull moment.
-
If there was ever any question about how good Geddy Lee is as a bassist, this should be all you need to know!
-
Man I must have listened to this song 5,000 times and this video just gave it some new life. Cheers to another 5,000!
-
Love it - Everything Rush does or releases for the fans is "top notch".

Rush has an uncanny ability to make the hairs on my arms stand up with guitar and rhythm. Alex just screams and moans with his playing while Neil and Geddy give such perfect counterpoint and timing. They always sounded like 15 guys instead of 3 in sheer size. I could probably paint the back cover of 2112 from memory and I have been a huge fan since the beginning. Thank you for every note!

The breakdown at 2:48 is one of the most beautiful transitions ever written in music

Can you believe that YYZ was nominated for best rock instrumental for the 1982 Grammys, but lost out to Behind My Camel by The Police? If you ever want proof of how marginalised Rush was by the ‘establishment’ in the music industry, that’s gotta be it right there.

A f*cking masterpiece. It takes a genius to write a bass riff that's actually the title of the song in morse code. And it actually sounds amazing!!
-
"Magnificent". RIP Neil Peart.
-
Great to see the old Maple Leaf Gardens included there

FINALLY A FREAKING SICK MUSIC VIDEO TO ACCOMPANY A SICK SONG!!!!!
-
I didn't ask for an official music video for YYZ, and I sure didn't know how badly I needed it.
-
Alex Lifeson should be mentioned in the same breath as Jeff Beck, EVH, Jimmy Page, Steve Howe...his use of gts, amps, and FX is unparalleled. And those solos are a testament to his virtuosity...

Rush: Eh? Steely Dan: Hold my Scotch Whiskey.
