If a Shiba Inu doesn't follow your commands, don't worry. His/her level is simply too high for you, just earn a gym badge or two ;).
  • @kyrasloane4847
I got lucky my shiba was easy to train. And the eye contact is definitely true lol
  • @deweylasv
I love my Shiba Inu! Best dog ever, especially for anyone that was previously a cat person, as I was. My Shiba died a few months ago, followed by my wife last week. I must now get a new Shiba Inu immediately, if not for my own sanity.

Unfortunately I was stupid and got my first shiba in the dead of winter, where it gets into the negative temperatures. We didn't go out much, and now he's afraid of everyone, even my roommate who has lived with us for two years. Please, PLEASE socialize your dog early.

My Shiba did not look me in the eyes until 1.5 years. Great call-out about how important it is to focus on eye contact
  • @Jeejington
Guys please please listen to this video. I love my Akira wouldn't trade her for the world but MAN is she stubborn. If you get a Shiba training is a must. They really are super intelligent and I really would not recommend a Shiba to anyone getting their first dog.
  • Took my shiba everywhere during socialization period. Now she thinks every pedestrian is here on this earth to give her attention 😂

Immediate google results: very loyal dog breed This video: VERY STUBBORN DOES NOT LISTEN
  • @caseytins
They are basically cats in dog form.
  • @candyDREAMER
I know a shiba owner that uses metal leashes bc the Shiba chewed through ALL other leashes. As a fellow Shiba owner I could only laugh bc we just opted to find parks where we could let our dog do what it wants. Socialization is hugely important.

Proud owner of a Shiba and I enjoyed saying "yes"...."very true"..."yep, that's a shiba inu"...and laughing throughout this video. :) I have pretty intense moments of eye contact with Yoki. His eyes are diamond shaped when he wants my food and become narrow(like smiling) when greeting me. He is worth all of the work.

Regarding training a Shiba, you have to be assertive and consistent, and you also have to reward desired behavior rather than punishing bad behavior. The Shiba Inu's mindset is "what's in it for me?", and they won't do something if they don't see any point to it. But they learn extremely quickly when given an incentive.

I lost my Shiba last October after 15 years by my side .... I miss my Petit Loup every day. This video is really quite excellent and realistic ! Although she forgot to say ....Shibas steal your heart
  • @stevenm733
Your backyard is the greenest I've ever seen.
  • @akio5250
This makes me want a shiba more
  • @Lytshi1992
I got into the breed because of looks and character. I wanted an independent dog that can be fine on his own. I love my boy to death but he's the clingyiest and neediest dog I have ever seen. Unless he gets loose and actively play bows me in order to Chace him he's pretty good.
  • @troyhilario2770
Lets all be honest , Shiba Inu’s popularity is solely from the Doggo (doge, very surprised I forgot) meme. And I love em Edit: Forgot His Doggo name
  • I may have gotten lucky but my Kira (shiba inu) was very easy to train, praise is a huge part of it . Kira knows when she is good and wants to please our family, each of us and she demands interaction with us all daily. I have had many dogs in my life and I will say without hesitation that Kira is the smartest and possible the best mannered dog I have had the pleasure to live with. We get mobbed at the local pet store by all of the locals and workers that know her by name and just want to be with her even for a few minutes.
