It looked like a large grassy field they ran into. Why didn't they just cut the power once they ran off? The plane would have had plenty of grass to slow down on.

I knew someone who once flew on a Russian airliner. He described it as 20,000 parts flying in very, very tight formation.

Was anyone else cringing as the plane was approaching the end of the runway and the pilots didn't abort.

For those wondering: The crash was caused by pilot error, runway overrun and Stall on take off, and poor training. It crashed into the river. Only 1 survived out of the 45 including the Lokomotiv Yaroslavi professional Ice Hockey Team. It's known as Lokomotiv Hockey Team Disaster. Yak-service had it's operating license revoked. And once a plane reaches past V1 the Pilot must take off.
