The New York Mets have experienced one of the most frustratind downfalls in Major League Baseball history. Even with the richest owner in the league, Steve Cohen, the team has unable to sustain any success recently. After winning over 100 games in 2022, they have fallen off of a cliff and now are one of the worst teams in the league. How does this happen? That is what I look to answer in this video. There have been a lot of problems with the Mets including Edwin Diaz and Jorge Lopez.

Little Dramatic with with Biggerst down fall in mlb history 😂. You gotta be actually good for some time ( which the Mets haven't) to have a downfall. Always enjoy your videos though.

Not the biggest downfall the White Sox went from last year being “this team should make the playoffs could go on a run” to This team is in competition to beat the 1899 Cleveland Spiders
  • @rthraitor
Bit dramatic when the white sox have literally become garbage over the same time period lol

"Downfall" would imply the Mets were good at any point in the last few years.

Mets atm are literally improving in starting pitching and offense. If they rebound by the all star break then they have no reason to trade everyone.

One thing I could say in Steve Cohen's defense they had nothing in their farm system when he bought the Mets. The Yankees Had Jason Dominguez (Being Compared to Joan Soto), Anthony Volpe (Being Compared to Derek Jeter) And Spencer Jones (Who is being called a left handed Aaron Judge.) Both Anthony Volpe and Jason Dominguez have so far played up to expectations in The Show.

Speaking as someone who DID see last years falloff coming I'd say this analysis is weak hype. The 2003 Mets were OBVIOUSLY set to regress. Under former GM Billy Eppler they loaded up on good veteran players in their mid 3os and hoped for the best in a classic "WIN NOW' maneuver. That team won 101 wins but ran out of gas at season's end. Then instead of bringing in younger talent they bring in a 40 year old pitcher (albeit a future hall of fame)? I thought if they're lucky they'll win 90. But they were unlucky. -Quintana out a half season and Diaz out all season; that should put them down to 83-85 wins right? Then they stank up the place in June and had a fire sale at the trading deadline.Otherwise they'd have probably ended up about there. This year we had a .570 % in April and were dreadful in May. The difference is we are reloading with young talent as we go so I don't recommend a fire sale but rather some calibrated trades. With David Sreans at the helm backed by Cohens billions the Mets future is bright.

Damn you have said what I have been telling my friends. I'm a plan holder and I don't care about a playoff run this year I want this team blown up. We should call Seattle and see if we can unload McNeil and eat enough salary go get a good prospect. You do not give a slap hitter going into his thirties 5 years soecuslly when McNeil has not hit 300 since 2021. He usually has a down and up year and his defense has dissapeared. Alonso has to go and everyone with a 1 year deal. Glad that Stearns has shown no loyalty.

The Mets will right the ship when those prospects start coming up (and they already have). But it’s going to take a couple of years. And one of their biggest problems historically is that they’ll have one good year and then follow it with years of mediocrity. Teams like the Braves and Phillies have remained as good or have gotten better over time. Cohen is learning the hard way that having money doesn’t guarantee anything. Players will just use him to get better contracts elsewhere. Mets have establish a consistent good core of players.

Firstly, they are 4.5 games back and starting to look interesting as a dark horse for a wild card spot. Vientos is making waves. Braves are collapsing. If not this year i have a feeling they are on their way to the ws next year.

I think Steve cohen is gonna end up being the new Arte Moreno. Not a bad guy, but meddling owner pushing to make signings that aren’t good long term, resulting in the team being mediocre to below average
  • @Zagirus
Fun Fact: Their owner, Steve Cohen, got busted by the SEC for insider trading. Who’d have thought his last name was so fitting?
  • @justinalley3399
Biggest issue with the mets is there roster is too old and lack of young talent on the roster

The biggest down fall? The reason they have the highest payroll obviously is not because they went out and signed the biggest free agents it’s because during the 2021 and 2022 off seasons especially 2022 heading 8th 2023 they had to resign their own guys. They literally had like 1 starter after 2022 so that’s why they went out and signed Verlander and Senga in which they actually got both for the one contract of deGrom which was brilliant they resigned Diaz resigned Nimmo signed Quintana for cheap money 2 yrs 14 mill Robertson was a cheap smart move 1 yr 10 mill and a very good prospect 2b that might be something good traded Verlander for 2 top prospects and Sherzer for another top prospect. They rebuilt the farm just like that for the actual free agent signings. So next time u decide to make a video like this do your actual homework instead of looking at it thru a hateful lens. That money they spent turned into a really good top 10 farm system now and more to come. They’ve done well with their moves. Now they have Severino, Martinez, McNeil,Marte, Quintana,Ottavino all great contracts that they can turn into more prospects for guys that aren’t in the future plans
  • @seanvogt221
Actually the Mets have won 8 out of the last 10 as of 6/15/24. Don’t rule them out yet. And this is coming from a Phillies fan. Still a lot of season to go.
  • With how bad they have been, they have had one of the hardest schedules so far and their only 5 games back from the wildcard so tbf the whole league is shit right now. Expect for Yankees and dodgers, Phillies have had the easiest schedule comparing them to the Yankees
  • Love it! It always happens. These know-it-all , meddling owners , like Cohen , Ballmer, Tepper , Angelos back in the day , always run their teams into the ground while usually spending a ton of money. These guys obviously know the business they made their fortunes in. These guys also obviously don't know the business of sports.

Alonso being traded will bring something, but definitely not a "massive haul" as you are calling it.
  • Biggest downfall ? DODGERS NLDS 2019.. game 5 God dam JOE KELLY SMH
