The Worst Franchise In MLB History

The Los Angeles Angels had two of the best players in Major League Baseball on the same team at the same time. Of course, I am talking about Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. Even though they had the two best players in the sport, they never found success like they were expected to. A lot of fans are dissappointed in the fact that the franchise has wasted the career of Mike Trout and the first 6 seasons of Shohei's career. In this video, I go through what happened and what is tnext for the Angels and try to figure out how this disaster happened.

It's insane how Mike Trout has only played once in a playoff series in his entire career and Angels got swept that series.
  • You know what's insane The only time The Angels ever won a World Series in 2002. They were a team full of role players with no superstars and no Hall of famers Outside of the coaching staff. They were the definition of a team

As a Japanese fan of Ohtani, if there is anything I am grateful to the Angels for, it is that they allowed Ohtani to pitch in the WBC2023 final. That showdown between Trout and Ohtani was truly amazing. It was worth watching a stressful 6 seasons just for that.

Moreno said he didn’t trade ohtani in the deadline because he would lose ticket sales. He’s only there for the money not for the win. Smh

Instead of blaming the team, let’s blame the owner of the angels. This is a culmination of his decisions, undercutting funds to the minor league system, being the poster boy for poor minor league living situations. Being involved in a gambling, drug, and bribery scandal. And letting shohei walk for legit nothing. Pin the blame on Arte Moreno, and title it that.
  • This is what happens when you have the worst owner in baseball. Since Arte Moreno bought the team in 2003, it's just been a downhill spiral. The 2000s were just an echo effect of the Disney era because of how good of owners they were and how Bill Stoneman and his crew set the angels up for success and Arte tore that all apart. General managers, countless players, Managers, coaches, scouting everything has been done none of it has done anything. The heart and soul of the problem is the owner. And it's really sad because when Anaheim was good that Orange County fan base is some of the most loyal and loudest and most intimidating fan bases in the whole league. The only way this team is ever going to get back up on its feet is if Arte Sells it
  • Well said. Angels have definitely proved baseball is a team sport. A team can't just have a few top players and expect that to be enough. That's why I have never been a big fan of teams giving out a massive contract to one player, because that one player can't carry the team on his back, and giving that player a ton of money, doesn't allow the team to build around them, because most of the teams money is tied up in that one player.

I mean, they've only won 5 playoff series in 63 completed seasons...and 3 of those were in 2002...
  • @lemmywotb
Arte Moreno is the worst owner in MLB
  • @Aut0KAD
people would be talking about how bad the Upton contract was if it weren't for Puljols and Rendon

The title should be "The Worst Owner in MLB History". Arte spends money in ridiculous ways and never on pitching. He won't focus on the farm system and also won't spend big for free agents. He wants fans in the seats and picks a couple of big stars to do that but he does not care about winning. The price of the team rises and Arte focuses on his real estate empire. He is only interested in land deals around the stadium and he is willing to move to get that done. Bottom line, the angels have only been a tool for Moreno to become richer in real estate.

Great summary of what went wrong and possibly why. It hurts seeing Rendon only put up 3 WAR so far when he's netted well over 100 million dollars in that span.
  • I was told by many salty Angels fans that Ohtani took the easy way out by signing with the Dodgers. That Trout was loyal and is willing to put in the hard work to make the Angels relavent. No, Trout is just stuck because of Moreno. Ohtani left because he knew just how pathetic this franchise is
  • @KewlBrettC
Well put together. A topic well covered but you managed to bring up points that are not often brought up - like their mismanagement of the minor leagues and the lack of production of players outside of Trout & Ohtani. Subscribed!
  • @mrsinister8943
Signing Pujols to that massive contract when he was nearing is mid 30's was just stupid. Pujols,Trout and Ohtani should of been a legendary trio. Plus Trout is looking like Griffey Jr out there as durable as a wet paper bag.
  • @khure711
As a Seattle Mariners fan I take offense to any other claims of worst MLB franchise other than the Mariners. I don’t care what franchise did to screw up, the M’s have screwed up their entire existence. That is all.
  • @reesebeast1949
The angels have proved that you can always find new ways of losing. Like hitting 7 solo shots and still losing to the A’s 8-7😭an all time classic

There are baseball teams and then there are baseball organizations and there's a huge difference.
