How many of these tips have you heard before? AND, what tips do YOU have that have helped you LOVE your pixie?
  • @valeriekelly315
Great tips - I have been cutting my hair since the start of the pandemic - I find at 84 its very liberating. I can see that all the points you make are so true. One of the few good things about getting old [ there aren't many lol ] is you don't care about what people think anymore, so I snip away in the hope that one day I'll have that near perfect pixie x
  • @Cooking_Patty55
I just quit my hairdresser, she won't texturize my pixie and when she does, its too thin, and she shaves the back of my neck and doesn' t leave it sassy like I asked for, I was stuck for years with an incompetent stylist, Im not going that route again, I gave her 3 chances to correct it, and each time it was worse, so onto find another one, that will do what I want

I get my hair cut at a local beauty school and have very rarely ever been not happy with the results. I always ask for a razor cut and for a student who is interested in learning how to do one or who loves doing them. The instructors are always near to help, show, and advise. I tell them that I look at this as doing a service by providing them hair to cut, since I’m no longer able to donate my blood at the local blood center. I also tell them not to worry about my freaking out if they accidentally cut it too short because it will always grow out. This usually puts them more at ease and I have a relaxing time, including a wash and scalp massage. I try to stick with whatever student I get, until she graduates, then ask her to recommend the next student. This has worked well for many years. They do all the things that are in this video, so I know I’ve done well with my choice of “salons”.
  • My stylist of over 20 years died from COVID. She was in an upscale salon and I paid a lot of money but she was worth it. Now I go to kind of a dated old salon and the woman I found hardly charges me anything and gives me some of the best haircuts I've ever had. Dont judge by the look of the salon!
  • Why do older women have a problem with their hair splitting in the back at the crown. It is SO common. Help! What to do?
  • @tinaroberts7232
Justin, I've reviewed every single one of your presentations, especially this one to find the correct way to communicate to my stylist exactly what I wanted and your very important tips. My hair was done today and it turned out fantastic. Volume where I needed it so I don't get 'flat' head spots, the "M" at the nape of the neck and keeping hair around the face where appropriate for my face shape. You're a rock star!! A huge THANK YOU for all your great information and help. Cheers!:yougotthis:
  • Justin, I love your videos, you ARE a genius! Your advice is always right on. I HAVE THE M!! We (my stylist & I) call it my fringies. I saw it on someone else and asked her to do it for me. I get compliments all the time on my pixie and I'm 71. It keeps me young, I DO NOT want an old lady "SOS pad" hairdo! AND I have found the other 3 tips here to be absolutely true too! You're the man! 😉

Justin-could you style someone’s short hair for us?
  • @PenfieldFanClub
Thank you! This is excellent. Many years ago, I wanted to have my haircut when I went to Italy. So, instead of getting my hair cut before the trip, I kept it a little longer. It was the most amazing haircut. Essentially, all I had to do was shake out my hair after coming out of the shower and a little gel. When I asked my hairdresser to look at what was different, she said there was nothing! Maybe different shampoo! So, I began my search to understand texturizing and point cut. And, when COVID and a broken hip happened at the same time, I began practicing cutting my own hair. I watched videos and carefully practiced cutting my hair. I was one of those people who spent a lot of money on my hair. And, frankly, I really prefer my hair today! And, I especially appreciate this video. Thank you, again!

I find highlights on short hair make huge difference
  • @JaneThomas58
Most stylists don’t posses your level of skill or dedication to their craft. I have had so many lousy haircuts over the years. They don’t listen and don’t take face shape or hair type into consideration. Also if the stylist doesn’t style their own hair, dress smartly or wear makeup, run.

I find that when I have a bob shape, my natural level 7 dark blonde color is great but when I go short, a stronger, much lighter level 9 blonde looks best. On me, short hair and my natural color just looks average or ordinary. When I amp it up with color, the same cut looks extraordinary.
  • Excellent point with the M on the back neckline, the tapering the sides above the ear and not holding it straight out…plus texturizing ends to break it up!! Oh my gosh…Thank you for this refresher! As a hairstylist of 30 years, I truly appreciate you sharing these videos. Thank you! If you are ever in MN, it would be Amazing to have you come teach a hair cutting class at our Salon!!

Justin, I love watching you, especially when you are talking about pixies. You are so knowledgeable and I appreciate you taking the time to explain some things I can use. ❤
  • @g3andrea
Spot on, Justin! I finally found someone to cut my hair into a pixie, actually she is my son's barber! She has done the "m" neckline, left the top longer, and is really good at shaping the profile to add more volume at the back of my head (which is a flat). I was able to discuss what I wanted with her... and she was very receptive. We decided together to try a soft undercut on the sides along with tapering to create a shape that adds a softness to my face while accenting my cheek bones. I am about to travel to Europe for a month, and I will not be taking a blow dryer. I LOVE how easy and flattering this haircut is for me. ADDITIONALLY: I am trying out using a shampoo bar instead of liquid shampoo in order to make travel packing and going through TSA checkpoints easier. I found a "purple" shampoo bar online, and it seems to be working for my short hair. However, I have found others that seem to have way too much oils in them. I know you have some favorite products, but you also say to use what works best for us. I am just curious... what are your thoughts on shampoo bars?

Its so so hard to find a stylist who knows how to do this type of cut right. My old stylist who retired would cut a V (similar to the M) in the back and it was fabulous. I've have to explain this so many times to different people over the years and it was like they had no idea what i was requesting - I was so excited to see you talking about this!
  • Your video is so timely. I got a pixie haircut in Finland this summer. Tomorrow for the first time, I'm getting my pixie cut by my local hairdresser. I will definitely keep your tips in mind. Thank you for excellent hair videos! 🌟
  • @bcvahsfam
You need to open styling schools and train stylists. It is so hard to find a good stylist. Or travel the country and visit us and cut our hair for us!! I always love your videos.
