Inside a modern barn house in Tagaytay is a colorful mid-century modern home

Published 2024-04-27
Built and designed by husband and wife Bong and IDr. Rossy Rojales, the R House exudes their personal styles. After designing hundreds of homes for clients at Hurray Design (which celebrated its 15 years in the industry), the Rojales couple experimented with unique forms and color for their own bolthole in Tagaytay. Inspired by the black barn house on The National's album cover of "Sleep Well Beast", R House's form explored a modern take of the barn house using the same black metal cladding as used on the gabled roof.

Equipped with a jacuzzi pool for the chilly Tagaytay evenings and a music room full of vintage ware to play vinyl records, R House is meant for easy weekends away from the busy city life.

This house feels so cozy. I love it. Very simple in design but the details are very meticulously well thought out. The pieces blend together and yet they stand out individually. I would love to live in this home. ❤

That little side yard you've got there will be nice and sunny until somebody comes along and builds a 2-story house RIGHT FRIGGIN NEXT TO IT.

is it practical to have metal cladding in a tropical climate? won’t it absorb and keep heat for a long time? dark colors do not repel heat. this a great example of ”just because you can, it does mean you should”.

Nice house. What did you use for the wood toned wall by the entrance and the dining? It matches perfectly with the kitchen and interior doors!

I was thinking of using roofing material to cover my firewall as I am having problems with leaks but I was told it is not advisable as it can be blown by the winds/typhoon after some years.

  • What a beautiful, well designed house. I love how you maximized the space. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! P.S. May I know who the artist of the murals is? I love how it gives the interior a splash of color. Thank you.
