Just when you thought KTM might have cancelled the 390 Enduro fresh new spy shots have surfaced of it being tested in India alongside the KTM 390 Adventure. It looks to be ready for the dirt with a trimmed down look and 21/18 wheels ready to go. Is it going to be the dual sport we all want or just another road based motorcycle that misses the mark?

  • I cant believe KTM hasnt remade a bike similar to the 640 Adventure. If the 640 was resurrected using the 690 engine, i reckon it would be a sales success. KTM will need to be at the cutting edge of single cylinder adventure bike development now that the Chinese are starting to produce bikes that everyone has been screaming for.

If the new ktm enduro 690 would have the same look than this Adventure 390, it will be a total top sales! The perfect mix

What is so disappointing to me is the complete lack of interest and effort from the Japanese manufacturers in this area. They have a large and mostly loyal supporter base, and they are being let down. The 450 market is the next big thing, as the preorder sales of the 450 Himalayan and CFmoto, and the interest in this KTM show. If the Japanese manufacturers do not lift their game, they will be dominated by the likes of RE, CF moto and others.

Looks interesting. Though, I still wish Yamaha would get with it and make a Tenere 400 adventure and WR400R dual-sport (or something along those lines). Thanks for another great video!

These bikes will likely still be road converted pigs. I just want them to make a bike like the 300L Rally with the TFT and 21st century goodies. At least 250mm travel, low 15L tank, 150-155kg wet.

You're absolutely correct in saying that KTM has to retune the engine for more torque at low and mid-ranges. The adv390 platform has proven successful for them, but the competition is catching up and there are offerings that do the same thing at lower price. So, simply carrying over the same engine tuning from Duke 390 isn't acceptable. In addition, they need to find ways to reduce vibrations. Things like rear luggage rack also needs to be standard. BMWs 310s are also due for updates, hopefully a bigger engine. Let TVS sell the older 310cc engine-based models under their moniker.

I would have thought, styling aside, the RE Himalayan 450 is the direct competitor, its already here and at a price KTM will struggle to beat. Then there is the MT 450 from CFMoto, the 490 twin that KTM dumped and the direct competitor to the 390 Adventure at a bargain price. I think the KTM 390 Adventure platform might be in a bit of trouble by the time it arrives except for the fans of Orange. I think they left the old model redevelopment 12-18 months too late.

This is exciting news! I'm on a Himalayan 411 at the moment, looking to upgrade for a bit more power, but the pickings for smaller-engine adv bikes are quite slim unless you go for an enduro-machine with some touring-equipment (which comes with its own cons), so seeing the 390 Enduro still alive is great to see. Cause right now I'm struggling to find any other options than the new Himmy (Kove, CF Moto and AJP aren't available in Norway atm ...).
  • I can't wait to see both of them with final spec. Didn't decide which one of them to chose, but my old BMW R1200GS already for sale :)) Thank you very much for updates. I've been waiting for these bikes for 3-4 years... From the very first spy shots! Fingers crossed!

It's safe to say that the new 390 adv with its dakar styling looks better than the previous gen that looked like a fugly dinosaur. In the video enduro looked like 21/18 and adv looked like 19/17. Hope they bring out 21/18 versions of the Adv 390 like the one in that German video. But for highway hauls and cornering, 19/17 with alloys would be a better option. Nice breakdown brother. ✌️

It’s definitely good news about an exciting bike. I think they’re the same size wheels as well. Appreciate the updates and content. Take care 🏍️💨
  • @FluxExplorer
If they make a 390 Adv, with quality components, fully adjustable suspension, and a 21/18 wheelset… holy hell that will be one sweet bike. If they treat it like every other sub-450 adv/ds, by slapping on budget components and suspension, it’ll be a swing and a miss.

Still waiting for the "Unicorn" , 500cc Twin with 240mm suspension travel. high exhaust and 170 kg

Love it! Enduro for me. I'm OK with the compromise between weight and value. Hoping to get the 1st one to hit my dealer's floor! Thanks Solid!
  • @riderhunt
Great Had been waiting for ur expert views
  • Thanks for the update Solid! I was looking at the 450MT, but for now I'm sticking with my 2023 390 Adventure SW untill the new 390 makes its way Down Under. 🙂

MAD TV's vid about the Himalayan 450 (Aussie release) has me convinced that the 450 is the one to get. Yes, it's heavy, but Dave reckons to go for it. (said so to me in a reply).
  • Would love to see an adaptation from husq too. Prefer their styling. The KTM high viz orange is a bit, safety jacket
  • I am probably the only one, but I love the underslung exhaust. The standard space of putting an exhaust is always in the way of luggage and is the first thing to get damaged when you crash. I don't understand why motorcyclist believe the exhaust may not be submerged in water (that it would affect the bike's water crossing ability) but 4x4 people have no issue driving with the exhaust under water. Maybe someone can shed some light.
  • @colinbowman8816
I ignored it for a long time, but now I think the short Kove 450 rally will probably eat KTM's lunch in this single cylinder dual sport area. It could be the unicorn... And quality does not seem to be an issue, as one might (reasonably) expect from a chinese bike.
