Instead of designing a new truck from the ground up, Ford modified the company's bestselling F-150 to accept an electric powertrain. Smart. That allowed Ford to beat the competition with a truck that feels conventional and cutting-edge at the same time. And potential buyers have been gobbling them up. The base models now offer 240 miles of range. Not bad. But for many, it makes sense to pony up for the long-range battery pack, which delivers 320 miles. On a typical Level 2 charger at home, the extended-range battery takes 19 hours to go from 15% to 100%. Every F-150 Lightning is four-wheel drive and has a four-wheel independent suspension for a smooth ride.

When it comes to work, the Lightning keeps up with its gas-powered brethren. The long-range Lightning can tow 7,700 pounds and haul 1,952 pounds in its crew cab short bed (the only configuration available). However, towing a heavy trailer will dramatically shorten the Lightning's driving range. If long-distance towing trips are a part of your truck's duties, and you don't want to wait around for the battery to charge, a conventional gas F-150 might be a better choice.

Drive a Lightning, and you'll be shocked at how quick it is. Ford says these trucks can reach 60 mph in a tick over 4 seconds. That's quicker than a Ford Mustang GT. It can be outfitted with the same safety and tech features as any gas-powered F-150. Plus, the Lightning's battery pack can export power to electrical devices and even your house.

New electric trucks are launching every year. We already have the GMC Hummer EV and Rivian R1T. Soon GM will be offering its Chevrolet Silverado EV as well as a second truck from GMC. The Hummer is more expensive than the Lightning. The Rivian is a bit more sophisticated and capable off-road, but it costs more, is hard to get, and has a slightly smaller cargo hold. Right now, the Lightning offers the best combination of traits for most buyers.

While watching this video, I thought you were driving like a maniac and then I realized I was watching at 1.25x speed, lol. Great truck and magnificent EV option.

I own an F150 Lightning, Lariat ext range, and I love it every day. It is the best vehicle I've ever driven. It's an investment that is worthwhile. EVs tend to be a little more expensive upfront, but the cost to maintain and to get the same number of miles driven is far, far lower than any gas or diesel powered vehicle of the same kind. The Lightning is like 4 vehicles in one: it's a proper pick-up truck, and has the luxury of at least a Lexus if not a Jaguar, and it performs and handles like a sports car, but rides like a smooth old Cadillac. It really has to be the best vehicle of the century!

It always amazes me to see so many comments knocking the EV'S that are in these videos. The titles clearly indicate that these YouTube videos are about the lightning EV. Yet these EV haters continue to watch these videos. It takes a lot of time and effort to make these videos and yet so many unnecessary negative comments. My question to these people is, "WHY DO YOU WATCH THESE VIDEOS, SINCE YOU HAVEN'T ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THEM ?"

Ford hit it out the park with the lightning. I got the lightning and it so smooth and way faster than even my v8 gto. Its on another level. I been averaging almost 3 miles per kw too. Its the perfect daily driver.
  • Just got mine a week ago and I am in love. I also have a Toyota Tundra Hybrid - we have a lot of animals to evacuate in the fire risk area of California so we need to tow/payload/range of the Tundra. Really impressed with the Lightning!!! And, great review!

I traded in a 2018 prius & a 2014 F15 and my lightning platinum outperforms both of those vehicles in everyday. It gets better fuel economy and rides better than my prius did. And as far as being a pickup, it does everything as well as my 2014 did only much much cheaper. I got over 50 mpg with my prius and around 10 mpg with my old F150. I must say though had I needed this truck for long distance traveling or towing which would've required me to use public charging, I definitely wouldn't have purchased it.
  • Thanks for the video. I have 1 month own of the Lightning and it is truly the best vehicle ever. I bought it for the planet and really am pleased with all the features. I Have saved about $150 for the first month, net, now. No plans to tow, but the battery range does get eaten up by driving faster....

Does the F150 Lightning have a two door standard cab model with an 8 foot bed? I need cargo bed space not passenger space.

Just got my XLT and love it. Just the savings alone compared to my diesel F-250 will pay for it in 8 years and that truck had cost me just about the same.
  • @malcolmadams2105
It’s pretty cool. All the power plugs 🔌 and all But I’d like to know what the cost 💲 of charging is.. how much for a fill up?? Electricity ⚡️
  • @xilbus
How much does it cost to replace the brakes? Are they special pads on a ev?
  • @SeaReverie
I drove it. It’s nice! However, and I really hope Ford is listening, it’s about $20-30,000 to much. Especially since it only comes with a 3 year warranty. Are you telling me I need to put $8K down, finance about $80K at over $1000/ month, and the people who built it won’t guarantee it for more than 3 years?
  • @coreyray6723
It appeals to me. It is the cost. But the Tesla Model X was on my mind. Thus, the Lightning is still on my list. I will have to visit the lot to check out the available markdowns. Although I am spending more time in Ecuador, I will be returning to the US in March to take advantage of the savings. I anticipate purchasing a 2023–2024 ZR2 1500 Bison. Although the miles per gallon of a diesel are what I really want, I do not really want a diesel. So I’m not sure. 😢

Given I still had to order one in Sept 2023 and there was only 1 on the lot in a city of 2.5 million people, I feel all the shitters in the comments are in their echo chambers. Besides, to gain market share, each of these Lightnings have tens of thousands of dollars in them as lost leaders. They cost more to manufacture than buy. It is a great deal for those who don't haul, which here in farming country is 99.5% of Ford F-150 owners. Those that haul, buy themselves the F-250. Not the city truck that the F-150 is. You all act like you can't get a 2024 6.7 power stroke dually 250 from Ford for actual towing.
  • @VashtiPerry
I do like this truck. The whole car industry’s tripping on prices so hopefully sometime this year the prices will drop significantly.
  • @markd9580
Wonder how long the battery will last over time, Are these going to be throw away trucks in 7-10 years?
  • @huggy1712
Love the new truck but There is no way someone making under 30,000 thousand per your in Canada can ever afford 110,000 thousand for a new truck way out of my price range and now with a new government tax being added jacking up the food even more new truck at this price never going to happen in my life time
