Accordion Reed Voicing Tutorial

Published 2024-03-06
Accordion Reed Voicing. A couple of things I neglected to comment on. Firstly, my selection of screwdrivers for lifting reeds through their slots from underneath included some bent ones for those occasions when there is little room in the reed chamber. Secondly, the reed shown at the end, which is bent in a curve, is going to occur on underside reeds when the reed is leaned on to open its gap, but the tip of the reed bottoms out on the floor of the reed chamber. I just put it into the topside reed for the sake of demonstration. Fixing it will require removal of the plate from the block to bend the reed back to straightness. Mostly this doesn't happen when I use this 'gap opening' technique, but occasionally it can. Finally, it should also be noted that quite often, though not always, reed bending can lower the pitch the reed plays, necessitating retuning.

Than you Peter, very helpful. Not long ago I was watching a Pigini video of a tour of the factory and Pigini technicians were blowing through reeds as a final check.

Thank you Peter - from a aged but raw beginner who just wants to correct minor matters as/when they occur.
