CLOSING OUT OUR STORAGE UNIT | Adventures With Robin

Published 2024-03-17
If you've been following my channel, you'll know that not only did I do a no-buy year last year, but I've also been doing a lot of decluttering. We worked on our garage a few weeks ago and now we're closing out our storage unit and doing more decluttering. I had some unexpected feelings come up at the thoughts of letting go of certain items, which I think is probably normal and maybe some of you can relate to how I was feeling

  • What tips do you have for me as I continue this process to declutter and let go of items that are not serving me? Btw, yesterday I donated THREE bags of clothes (the 1 bag from the video turned into 3). Also we cleaned out more the garage yesterday donating 4 boxes of religious books (from our previous religion, #watchtower.org) which we had held on to for far too long. We also recycled a couple of boxes of old electronics. WE’RE MAKING PROGRESS!!!! Thanks for watching and your support 😊
  • I feel your nostalgia. Things hold memory for us.❤. I think it’s wise to see our bodies as cyclical as far as weight/shape. ‘There’s no resolution…’ —I feel that. Life has very few finalities if any. I’m working on accepting that by not abandoning the present moment. Not doing great today. Tomorrow will be better.
  • I just decluttered some stuff in my closet too and for sure am feeling the ambivalence!!! I had crocheted 200 doll dresses and couldn't sell them and ended up donating them. What I tell myself is that everything I donate will make someone else happy and even though I am still emotionally hurting it feels right at the end of the day😊😊 Grief is a part of life and it does get better with time.

I heard of ThredUp to consign and I figure it's a great idea to recoup. I understand what you're going through, feeling sentimental. I get attached to my things, too. Then there's a story about my mom's things. When she died, I claimed a few boxes, took some home immediately, but left some with my JW brother to get later. Then I got df'd. My JW family figured I didn't deserve anything, which i felt was cruel and judgmental. Someone else claimed some really sentimental things which my mom wanted me to have. I'm her only daughter. So I was grieving my mom's death, plus being shunned by friends and family who I cared about, plus Mom's things. I'm really grateful for the few things I did get. Mostly vintage jewelry, some fine china, and lace doilies. I'm a vintage gal. It's not just "things" but it's the energy and memories attached to those things that brings up our sentimental side. Keep taking care of you, dear Robin.💖And you'll feel better soon.💖
  • A tip I have about being post menopausal/metabolic issues. Enzyme supplements/probiotics and gut microbiome research have helped me a lot.
