I rented rooms in my home to college students. One year, I rented to two young men from Africa. I wasn't aware they were from the same country until they were moving in. When the mother of one saw the other young man, the look of hate in her eyes shocked me. She said to him with venom in her voice, "You are xyz (referring to his tribe)." He replied, "Yes, and you are abc (tribe)." Although they were from the same country, and the same color, they absolutely did not regard each other as "brothers/sisters" as implied by the man in the video. I thought I would have tribal war in my home and so have a talk with the young men. They both were open to learning from each other and about their different tribes. They became friends, to the chagrin of their families.

Put them in a NYC subway for a minute, and ask the same question again.

As an African, the issue with this sentiment is that it is not reciprocated by other groups. And this has been the issue in Africa for a very long time. We try to be friends with everyone, but those people do not share the same feelings.

“I judge people based on the way they look.” Hell yeah man. That’s something worth clapping about.

  • The wildest thing is when you jump on a plane as an “African American” and fly overseas only to realize that you’re just an American everywhere else in the world. It’s a wake up call every time I leave here 🇺🇸
  • No matter where you come from as long as you are a black man, you are an African.💯❤️❤️🇯🇲🇯🇲
