PLEASE read the details below if you are planning your own roadtrip here :)
Aboriginal held land in Australia is private property and to travel through, you need permission often in the form of a permit. For Kiwirrkurra Country, a permit allows you to travel along the main road, into community and camp at approved campsites. Access into any other areas aside from this is still prohibited. More information on traveling through Kiwirrkurra country can be found at www.tjamutjamu.com/travelling-to-kiwirrkurra-count…. The Kiwirrkurra Traditional Owners thank you for respecting their culture and country.

ALSO! If you are looking to buy Aboriginal art, make sure you buy from the most ethical sources which are community artist-owned art galleries and collectives. For Kiwirrkurra art you can purchase through Papunya Tula Artists (papunyatula.com.au/). For other Central Australian Aboriginal art, visit Desart for more information at desart.com.au/ Thank you :)

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here:    • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.

We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)

So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.

Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.

4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!

After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)

We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

As an Australian, I love it when youtubers come out to make videos here, its so cool to see them experience our culture and life.
  • You know you've made it big when you are recognized in a tiny Outback town of 404 people. That is truly impressive, you two. 😁❤
  • @greatpix
Imagine meeting viewers, twice, while out in one of the most remote places in the world. Kara and Nate are known everywhere!
  • @kidlitwriter64
I saw Yalti's art while in Seattle at the Art Museum. This is amazing to see the town she's from. What an amazing story!
  • @vivin552
As an Aussie from a big city living abroad, I have enjoyed every minute of this video while definetely also setting off some homesickness. Thanks so much Kara and Nate for showcasing the (untouched parts) beautiful country that it is.
  • @TheAls4173

  • @samaralake7568
As an Aussie, welcome! I love that you're showcasing the beautiful outback, our First Nations People and all the amazing things our country has to offer. I also love going through the comments and seeing how many other Aussies are following along with your journey.
  • I live in Perth and could've believe my eyes when I saw that you guys were in Australia. Honestly thought I was dreaming! This video makes me so emotional because you guys are such good storytellers, and having travelled almost all over Western Australia, I feel like I'm part of this video in a way. I recognise things and can relate to what you're seeing and doing. Thanks so much for making this video Kara and Nate ❤
  • I died at Kara’s impression of the wind 😂 Also love how frugal Nate still is with that grocery bill joke and the $30 app that didn’t work #relatable
  • @jasonbird2628
I have been watching you guys for five years now, since I retired. Very much fun! Every one. I must say this one is the best one so far. And I’ve seen them all. I was a news photographer at FOX for 20 years and in the business for 42. So I know what you go through to travel, keep track of equipment, editing, and of course time. Just this Pt. 1 of this trip was perfectly performed in every way. BRAVO. That was a standing ovation. Not yelling. Ok maybe some yelling. Can not wait for Pt 2.
  • @HabitualHobbies
This channel will forever be my favorite thing about Saturdays! Maybe we could help you choose an adventure soon? Love you guys!
  • As an Australian fan I am so incredibly proud of you two for doing this trip in such a respectful manner. Thank you for bringing attention to such an important part of Australia . You have won the hearts of many Aussies after this video. ❤️
  • @iDoit4LoLz
Being from your guys' hometown, this ending gave me chills. Y'all were definitely guided there for a divine purpose. I truly hope this brings more recognition to those lovely artists. Good on you, Nate, for following your heart.
  • @Kiwi-Macca
Stunning episode, well done K and N. It can't be emphasised enough that a trip like this requires permits, as mentioned. You can't just drive into Aboriginal land and communities without them. Many communities are actually totally off limits. And Fun Fact... the camels were mostly brought over to help build the railways through the outback and the cameleers that came with them were called Afghans, even though they were from all over the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. That's where you get The Ghan, the famous outback train. Many of the cameleers were also the first Muslims in Australia and their descendents are still around today. The camels are now the only wild camels left in the world and they fetch huge prices if shipped back to the Middle East.
  • @shelleyhelmond
As an Aussie who has lived in the outback, this was a very special episode. Thanks so much for showing the world (and reminding me) how unique and starkly beautiful this country is. Can't wait for the next one 😍
  • @hamsie98
'Aussie dollars' ITS STILL WAY OVERPRICED 😂😭 Also it truly brought tears to my eyes, as an Aussie, too see the first nations people so beautifully represented. When people think Australia they don't really consider these parts. Thank you so much for providing a beautiful representation of our rural parts ❤
