From the spectral cries that echo over one of London's former execution grounds, to the shadowy monk who keeps a lone vigil inside London's oldest parish church. From a timeless hostelry that has changed little since Charles Dickens had Ebenezer Scrooge drop in to take his "melancholy dinner", to the ghostly bell that once tolled to foretell the passing of its parish's vicar.

Ghostly nurses, a notorious Victorian murderess, a mummified former citizen, a hideous black dog, and a persistent pong that hangs heavy in the air of the tunnels at a City underground station; all these await you as we set out to explore the timeless streets of the old City of London.

So join me as we set out to search for the spirits of bygone times at some of old London's most atmospheric places.

A very strange thing happened to me one night on the London Underground. It was many years ago after I had finished a late shift at Guy's Hospital when I was a nurse. It must have been around 11.30pm as I stood on London Bridge northern line to Bank platform. I was a little nervous as I was the only one waiting for the next train. All of a sudden a young child's voice singing London Bridge is Falling Down echoed through the platform. It was so very spooky. I wondered if it was one of the staff who had his or her child with them playing a trick on me. The weird thing was the voice seemed to emanate from the tunnel. If it was a trick the child was very good as it sang continously for about 20 seconds or so. There was no giggles. It was very odd and I've never forgotten it. I was so relieved when the train came.

You, sir, are a most perspicacious scholar of creepy, historical Olde London. Thank you for tickling our ghoulish sensibilities, especially at this most auspicious time of year. Cheers from Canada.

Great stuff here! To anyone who liked this video, be sure to pick up Richards' book "Haunted London". It has become one of my favorites, lots of great pictures, and I refer to it often.👍

Nicely done ghost walk. Thanks. The Black Dog of Newgate and the spectre of Amelia Dyer are some of my favourites. There's so many haunted locations in London. Queen's House in Greenwich spooked me since childhood, with that eerie photo of the ghost ascending the Tulip Stairs. 👻

Is this the same Richard Jones narrating that runs The London Ghost Walk...? I've bookmarked your website because I'd love to do a tour when I arrive in London in a couple years. I'm a big fan! This vlog was wonderful and I've saved it in my UK watchlist to watch over and over again, to whet my whistle as to what to expect when I do your tour. Well worth watching!

Awesome, well researched stories, this channel deserves more subscribers and views.
  • So, so interesting. As for the George and Vulture, In the very early 1970's, my then boss took me there for lunch and for YEARS, every time I was in London I searched for this place, scouring the area to no avail as I didn't know its name. I'm no spring chicken now🤣 but hope to make a visit before I'm kicking up the daisies. Otherwise, I might give it a haunting of my own!

Maybe now that Charles is king he can do something about all the horrid modern buildings that he always hated. He wasn't alone! Maybe he can pave the exteriors with some nice old fashioned bricks and stone columns.
  • @teagunn

  • @lizscutt7899

  • It gives me joy, that even in this Modern hightech age, we honour the past not only with dry facts, but all so with some good old fashioned ghost stories.

I love London. English History was my favourite subject in school. My first trip to London was in 2013. Enjoyed Dickens Walk. My hosts, an old school friend and her husband, had strung all historical facts into the one month I was there. History was revealed to me. Too old now to travel otherwise would love to go to London again. I am from Kolkata India
