  • @arsenalmanic
He plays all the drums himself on his songs. He's world class level drummer/drummist. Phil is a music legend !
  • My dad was a drummer and he told me this is the first song where the drums were the lead instrument on a song. Phil Collins is one of the best to ever do it.
  • @mrcampo19
He wrote this song while going through a bad divorce. He didn't intentionally write it about his ex. He sat in front of his keyboard and just spit out lyrics from his heart and this is what came out
  • Please, please, please watch the live version!!!!!! It is AMAZING!!!!! HE PLAYS THE DRUMS HIMSELF!!!!!
  • Guys- watch the live in concert video too- it’s the best! Phil Collins has a ton of great music to check out!
  • I've listened to that song for decades and still get chills when the drum comes in. It's genius.
  • You need to see the LIVE version! It's over seven minutes with a slow build & I guarantee your jaws will drop from this legendary performance. Please watch the whole thing, even after it's over. The crowds reaction is EPIC!

Watching young people discover classic music for the first time is almost better than when you discover it for yourself for the first time. Love the power music carries.
  • @troydulude
Phil is one of the greatest musicians in pop/rock history.
  • It refreshing to see the younger generation appreciate older good music.... props to you young fellas
  • @kathydoty8718
You missed the entire experience NOT seeing it live. 🙄 That was HIM playing the drums and singing! AMAZING!!!

Song is really about knowing that a "blow up is about to happen, before it happens". Written and recorded during a rough divorce process, Phil wrote the song basically to express his frustration of knowing that almost every conversation was going to be a fight. So much so that he would tell friends about it happening DAYS before it actually happened. So the song was about knowing it was about to go off, and figuring "why hold back, just unload all of it". The "counter-point" to this song is "Don't Care Anymore"... one of the best Collins song and almost an instant "anthem" for people who just don't want to put up with BS anymore. Really sad knowing that his neck injury prevented him from making more music over the years. He was one of the most admired drummers of his time, and people loved his writing and vocals. But, with the body of work he left behind, there is absolutely no one who can deny his raw talent on the drums and on the mic.

This was huge in the 80’s and the song was played on Miami Vice, which was a number one show at the time. Phil Collins is also the drummer! Awesome!!!
  • I love those Ole school songs. He has ALOT of great songs❤❤❤
  • @Salmacis99
Phil Collins is a legend- he was the drummer for the band Genesis, then took over as drummer AND lead vocalist in 1976. Genesis officially played their last show recently, but their catalog is amazing and you need to check it out! This song is Phil solo, and Phil's solo career is amazing as well
  • @elguicho9
Watch the live one. You'll be blown away. Oh, and he sings AND he's also the drummer. Trust me, watch the live one with the hundred million or billion views. It's very theatrical without anything really happening. Goosebumps.
  • @SoulVibes3850
Please watch the live concert version! Phil Collins is a legend thru and thru ❤
  • @nighthawkde4522
I saw Phil both solo and with Genesis all through the 80’s and 90’s several times and he never disappointed. This song and the reaction when the drum fill came in..magical.
