Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). If that sounds like your kind of

Not only is Northern Spain criminally underrated, it's also one of the best places to make content - lost villages, American-Spanish history, world class gastronomy, and Spain's most impressive landscapes. Anytime I go up there I can't help but make videos. You nailed it with this one, as always.
  • @puppibanana
I only hope that Northern Spain doesn't become so popular that they ruin it for the locals as it happened with nearly all of the Mediterranean coastline (pollution, destruction of natural areas, increased cost of housing and living, etc.) We're still on time to protect these areas from gentrification and mass tourism.

Galicia is great and well worth a visit. I'm Irish and feel very at home there, the climate suits me much more than the hotter parts of Spain. It reminds me of the west of Ireland. It has the same mystical vibe. And the people are very down to earth and friendly. Also love when I get served a local wine, often in a small bowl.
  • I've been living in Galicia for more than 20 years, moving here was the best decision that I made. I spent time in Peru and Bolivia in the 1970's and loved the Spanish colonial architecture which you never see in Spain, only in Galicia . . . Galicia manda carallo !

As an Irish guy, this is the place to be. People are friendly, weather is mild, food is amazing aaaaand, it is not packed!!

Galicia and Asturias are amazing. As a Londoner with family in central and southenr Spain, when I used to go Galicia as a kid it just didn't seem "Spanish" enough with the rolling green hills.etc.But of course it's an amazing part of the world I now love. The cuisine and yes the chiringuitos are cool!! 🤙

Northern Spain is so mystical and mesmerizing!
  • @s.ga21
Cool that you like Galicia! Galicia is mystical!

Although I am a first generation American, with parents that emigrated to the USA, I felt a strong sense of "morrina" which is like a strong pull and nostalgia for a return to Galicia. Your video is taken exactly where many generations of my family are from. I have raised four children here in the USA, but ensured that they too experience land of our forefathers. Thank you fora most entertaining video, exposing what a special place it is you are experiencing.

It reminds me very much of Northern California. I'm also a a person who doesn't like hot sand and the typical beach where you bake. Great episode!

✨ It's GREAT to be back after a month or so off! I hope you enjoy our exploration of gorgeous Galicia. More videos coming soon. And I'm always open to video ideas. Let me know what video you'd love us to make in the comments below! ⬇

Northern Spain has always been worth visiting, and its nice to get away from the crowds and spread some money around!
  • @MrWalter2202
I am a German, living in Galicia and I really enjoyed your vídeo about the Rías Baixas. (As all your other videos as well). I could almost feel the taste of this typical simple and fresh salad with the best leaves and tomatoes and home made vinegar etc. or the mussels, the marisco . Well done! Thank you!
  • @lulubelle0bresil
OMG I can’t believe the house has a traditional stone “espigueiro” (granero? hórreos?) near the pool! That’s so unique and unbelievably cool! So happy they preserved it! It’s that stone hut on pillars - it was used to dry corn - they look magical to me!🙌
  • @martinryan1071
Aaaargh! Too many people are discovering Galicia! 😆😆😆My wife, sister-in-law and I have been spending a few weeks there each September in recent years and enjoy it immensely. The food is amazing and - being Irish - we're used to a little rain!
  • @muchapiva

  • @Ktheodoss
Spain is now the second most visited country in the world. And the prices are showing it.

The flat fish in 12:30 is rapante (gallos in Madrid). It is my favourite fish. Even better than sole
