Upgrades to the Zayer Milling Machine! | New Chip Guards and Installing DRO | Workshop Project

Publicado 2024-07-26
We’re tackling some long-awaited upgrades on our trusty Zayer B3500 milling machine. We're giving this beast some TLC, starting with those mangled chip guards at the back – they've seen better days. So, we'll be removing the old ones, drilling some holes in their replacements, and giving them a fresh coat of paint to match the Zayer blue. But that's not all! We've also got some new removable guards for the front of the bed, making sure everything stays clean and protected during those epic milling sessions. Plus, we say goodbye to that frustrating digital readout – we're installing a brand new, state-of-the-art Measumax MX-30i DRO for precise and reliable measurements. And because we can't resist improvements we’re planning for future projects and casting a keen eye over the mill for anything else that needs some love. We're thinking new way covers (replacing the old ones or maybe even making our own!), some fresh way wipers on the ram for a smoother operation, and maybe even some custom-made aluminium hand wheels to replace the plastic ones that could fly to pieces. Join us as we tick off another workshop project to keep this Zayer machine running smoothly for years to come!

  • We know what you’re thinking - why not give the whole machine a paint job? 🤔 While a fresh coat would look nice, we’re focused on functionality over aesthetics right now. A full machine restoration is on the wish list for the Zayer, but with other projects on the go and while this is earning our business money, we’re prioritizing upgrades that make a real difference 😄 Lesson of the day: Listen to your wife 😂 WATCH ALL THE ZAYER VIDEOS HERE: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUzFN5xVei7XKeIvPNLxUfG… 🔔Hit the notification bell so you never miss our new weekly video. ✍Leave a comment below with your questions or thoughts. 🔓Get Early Access & Ad Free videos in our Patreon community: www.patreon.com/cuttingedgeengineering 🛒Check out all our CEE Merch here: www.ceeshop.com.au/

The quality of production is really great now, your work is really amazing Karen. Kurtis keeps the customers happy with his outstanding quality and attention to detail. Homey makes us all smile with his antics. 😊❤❤❤
  • @ilaril
I love the fact that you've allocated time for shop projects, and that you follow it even if the original thing can't be done. It's nice to have a "break", where you get to do something you enjoy to make your work go smoother. Much love from me and my 45kg dog that's sleeping on my lap like all Friday mornings! ❤
  • This video is a perfect example of how proper maintenance and upgrades can extend the life of heavy machinery! 💪
  • @frankmartin8471
"How do you know which side to paint?" Kurtis won't be forgetting that question for a while. Great video, and that Zayer is a really interesting shop machine. Thanks again.
  • @tinman7551
Every video. Your new grill gets more and more natural looking. I’m so very happy for you Kurtis. 🥰❤️😍
  • @gusviera3905
That Zayer has been needing that attention after years of what looks like pretty hard service before you bought it. But with your refurb, care and preventative maintenance, it will be like new and last a lifetime. It's a beauty! You two remind me of my wife and I...you crack each other up all the time. Kurtis, my man, I can only help you by passing on the marriage advice I got from my father--"Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?" 🤣 Thanks for inviting us in and have a great week. Cheers.
  • Love the way Kurtis love and maintain his machines and tools. A perfect example of top-notch machinist. Awesome.
  • @hot_wheelz
Great to see you putting regular time into keeping the workshop in top shape and being flexible enough to pivot when it's not possible to immediately move forward with the project you had scheduled.

Nice upgrades. The Zayer is my favourite. From memory it is also the most expensive... Homeless is so cute when he is crying with happiness...Such a good doggie...

Aussie engineering at its best, " The Council," sounds so british, though 😊. Great work all. Thanks for sharing.
  • That mill brings back memories from my apprenticeship and the huge Cincinnati mills we had. Hare & Forbes are pretty good! and easy to deal with. I order my carbides from them online and if I order them Monday, they arrive Wednesday! Although, I dread when they send their catalogues out because my wife cringes and starts looking up divorce lawyers LOL! Have a great weekend guys. Much love Grumpy
  • @ManiacMitrandir
Once again, this brongs up childhood memories about RTS games)) "Upgrading. Building. Unit ready." And, of cource, victory in he end!)
  • So grab yourself a coffee and have a relaxing time while Kurtis and Karen do the work. Love it.
  • Love your attention to detail and that you look after your machines as a lot of shops do not
  • @VirtuallyRetro
I love any video regardless. Shop upgrades are always a treat. Hi to all, Karen, Kurtis, Homie, George and all the others.. 😀
  • Restoration and fresh paint are wonderful things, especially on a machine you work with often. Makes it almost new! Excellent work folks.
  • @emiliosolis5056
Really enjoyed watching you give some love to that old machine, have a great week end.
  • @arieldahl
good to hear that you are feeling better
