When Should a Child Start a Musical Instrument? Tea time with mom of 10😊🫖☕️🍵

2023-03-21に共有
Things I've learned as a mom of 10 musical kids. 9 of whom are playing beautifully for their ages and stages. I'm no brilliant educator but I've been blessed by coming into contact with some AMAZING teachers and friends! 3 of my kids are studying a Juilliard School of Music, one is studying at Manhattan School of Music, and more of them are auditioning at Juilliard this year. Starting a child when they are young is not easy, but the benefits continue all of their lives! Also I find that as teenagers they have more direction than kids who have not studied music as children. I decided to make this one podcast style :)

  • I just found your channel yesterday, and I love it! We just started our 6 year old on piano, and our 4 and almost 3 year old are picking up some skills on their own! It’s been so fun to see! Especially my youngest, she gets so thrilled when she can pick up parts of “amazing grace” on her own. Keep doing the tea time! Us moms that have all young children need advice from more seasoned mothers like you! God bless!
  • Shinichi Suzuki's story is so inspiring...the title of the book I recommend to people interested in the Suzuki method is Nurtured By Love, and there is also a DVD version! I am so in awe of your family. I have 3 kids, I did "American style" parenting with my oldest, became a Suzuki piano teacher and started my much younger middle child on violin at the same time, and it has been a hugely positive force in our lives ever since. My youngest is 3 and just starting. It's such a wonderful journey. I still haven't quite figured out how you have made it work so beautifully with so many kids at the same time though!! I'd love to know more about how that works!
  • I'm a Christian and a grandmother. I found your channel a few weeks ago, and I am so enjoying you and your family's journey.
  • I am 22 years old and months ago started to play the piano - a dream of mine I had since I was a kid but was pushed down by a teacher of mine. I am not putting the blame on her but it is really important the type of teacher you have, their words! And their support and mostly, your parents support! I am happy for you and your kids! Lots of light and love to you!❤🎉

I owe SO much to music... played cello... quit then picked it back up as an adult. the one thing they didn't teach us in school was "audiation" or I would have done better. they also never stressed more practice time for some reason hah Earlier the better... if you start early enough you grow up with perfect pitch hearing too :P <3

Thank you for the insightful chat! My little niece loves going to church to run around with her buddies and every week she is absolutely enthralled with the keyboard and our awesome pianist. Mom is already looking around for a used keyboard we can keep at home so she can start "practicing." She's only 2 years old so we thought it might be too early for lessons, but if she likes it and starts to focus on it, why not?
  • Thanks for sharing your story. I thought your kids were Suzuki-trained. Their pitch, among other things, is very good. ❤ I took Suzuki violin at age four in the sixties. I became a professional flutist, and I have recently become a Suzuki-trained flute and recorder teacher.
  • Wow, I am very impressed. I thought you have played an instrument since a child. To be able to teach your children how to play. My daughter started playing flute in the 6th grade. I will never forget going to buy a flute and paying $400 or so for it . Tiffany made it to second chair in High School. But her whole motive to play a flute was to March in our Marching Band. The school had one of the largest marching bands in the South East. Tiffany and one other person in the whole State of Georgia received a invitation to play in the Tangerine Bowl Orlando, Fla.
  • I only got 6 mo of formal piano lessons in my youth, too, because we couldn't afford it. In my 20s I played a little more (took a college class and helped in choir) and took a classical guitar class. I bought a violin the year after my daughter started playing (she was 3 and I was 43).
  • Oh my! Recently ran into your channel....we used to live in SD and my older daughter took from Shirley Stafford!! She use to come to Escondido to a friend's house....the Hinrichs
  • This answered so many of the questions I had about music in early childhood, thank you!
  • @CMenzy
Played guitar from 8 - 10 then trombone from 11-15 and Tuba from 15 - 25ish don't play now due to having partial paralysis on one side but love all instruments love listining to fantastic skilled young players like your fantastic kids or the NCO / NYO so talented at a young age
  • I started when I was 3 and stopped at 12 because of school school got really busy and I loved your story and awesome video Awesome sweet dearest friends The Happy Caravan 😊💜🥰❤️
  • There are actually footrests with a mechanism to play the pedals, for little tiny pianists!
  • I started piano at 4 and at 75 I still enjoy playing.
  • So wonderful to hear. I took violin lessons (Suzuki method) for 2.5 years when I was 9-11 but it got too much for me, and my parents were okay with me quitting. I know they meant well, but I really wish that I stuck with it. How much time do you encourage them to practice each day at ages 5-10? I’d like to start my children this year with violin a guitar :)
  • Hi! I'm interested what do you and your husband work? Also, praying for your children to be accepted in Julliard, cause they deserve it!🥰
