I am very much of the opinion that Carl wasn't going to Paradise Falls to live there, but to die there. He's old, probably not gonna live for too much longer, doesn't have an unlimited food supply, and doesn't seem to have any living family, so dying in Paradise Falls probably felt like the only thing left for him while honoring Ellie's dream.

The saddest part about this movie is that it was implied Ellie was infertile due to the lead poisoning caused by the paint. So as she was painting her kid’s room, she was actively killing her child.

My guess for why Carl and Ellie never went to Venezuela like they originally planned was what was shown during the emotional Ellie scrapbook scene. Even though they didn't have kids, their relationship was still very eventful and close, so being married was already so much of an adventure that the Venezuela trip was forgotten. Also, love your commentary (the dubbing you did for Carl, Russell, and Charles was hilarious)! XD
