A Stylophone is regarded as a toy by some and a serious musical instrument by others. Some develop a fault and of the three most recently purchased on eBay, sold as non working, spares or repair, the same fault existed: that of an open circuit voice coil in the speaker. Here, I describe a means by which an effective repair can be performed by using reasonably easy to obtain components. Before embarking upon a repair job on one of these, basic electrical soldering skills are needed. There's no risk involved in this repair, as the device is low voltage battery powered. A soldering iron gets very hot and it's assumed the repair person is familiar with using one: serious burns can result by improper use! As it's assumed the instrument is unserviceable, any attempt to get the thing functioning is viable.

    Would the stylophone still work with headphones if the speaker is out? I have a newer one and it suddenly stopped working today (i've tried replacing the batteries). Thanks!
