Mustang II Tailwheel with leaf tailwheel springs

Published 2015-10-10
Follow-up video of the tailwheel of an Experimental Airplane Mustang II on landing. The purpose of the first video was to see if the standard tapered tailwheel spring (main center tailwheel support) flexes left and right causing directional instability after tailwheel touchdown. You saw how the wheel actually spins to 90 degrees during the spring bounces. That was a not-so-smooth "three-point" landing.
A modification of new flat tailwheel springs replaced the rod tailwheel spring. As I suspected, the tailwheel behaved better without lateral movement of the spring(s) .
Thanks to my son Matt Henry Facebook: Mathias Henry Instagram: @mathiashenry for the video.
