The Holler is Low (vr. 1)

Published 2016-08-12
Song I've been working on. No clue where the tune came from, but it surfaced from my brain with the verse 1 lyrics in the car the other day and I've been working on figuring out the notes and fingering for the banjo. Still working on tempo, not quite at the point of adding flourishes to the picking of it yet. And yes, I know my voice is shit, but it's the one I have to work with when working by myself. ^_^. Don't make me find someone to hold my flower.

Leave out the (E^) in the last line in the first verse and in the last verse.

Lyrics are a work in progress. I'm sure they will change as I work on the music a bit- a word shifting here or there to flow better, etc

LYRICS:

The holler is low
These mountains are proud
The things that I feel
I dare not say loud
For these trees have ears
And I fear they'd hear
The way that I feel
When you are near

When I lay in bed
My thoughts they drift back
To things that I feel
But words for I lack
At the end of day
When towards home I roam
These feelings I feel
Won't leave me alone.

"My Love," I can't say
For fear you would flee
These feelings I feel
Are torture to me
My council I keep
By pa's old mill stream
The feelings I feel
I'll hide with my dreams

I know I'd endure
If you did so leave
But feelings I'd feel
'Be heartbreak of me
So I hold my tongue
My hopes stay unclear
For feelings I feel
When you come near.
