Mastering the Mat - A Journey from Wilderness Ranger to Jiu Jitsu Champion with Leah Stumpf

2024-01-15に共有
Leah is a third-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a full-time coach at Straight Blast Gym of Montana. Leah's martial arts journey was inspired by her mother, and Leah initially delved into Tatsu do karate, achieving her black belt in 2004.

Leah's search for a functional martial arts academy led her to Straight Blast Gym and the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Here, she not only honed her skills, becoming an adult world champion as a blue belt and a multiple-time masters world champion at the black belt level, but also redefined her life's purpose. Leah's story is more than just martial arts, her diverse background ranges from multiple years as an Alaskan Wilderness Ranger to her significant contributions as a science educator for over a decade. These experiences have shaped her unique approach to coaching and her philosophy of life.

Now, as a respected coach, Leah has developed age-specific martial arts curricula for kids and pioneered a women's jiu jitsu team. Her story is not just about physical strength but also about the power of resilience, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of self-improvement.

As a woman and a regular listener, this is one of my favorite episodes. Leah is a role model for girls and women. I wish I had a Leah in my life as a young girl b/c she is the definition of a bas ass and a confident woman. There's a peacefullness (if that's a word) around her as well. I think she should do an online seminar for women (if she hasn't already). Great episode! PS-Andy made me cry with his description of his wife in the very beginning.
  • I’d bring her back in on a regular basis. This is an example of a very strong person who is on point with everything around her. Awesome episode. One of your best.
  • Please have Leah on at least once a month!! I know she is super busy but listening to her is so inspirational and just uplifting! at 1:33:35, God Bless Leah for all she smiles at, i am in tears laughing!!

Andy, I still remember the episode you did with your 1st wife, and I mean no disrespect to her, but, the way you interact with Leah is so different. The adoration you have for Leah is clear as day and so great to see. Thank you both for showing what healthy relationships look like. 💪

Andy, this is one of your best episodes. Leah is so interesting she has accomplished so much but yet extremely humble. She shared her journey and the valuable lessons learned. The video flowed so well, the conversation wasn’t choppy or wandering and you compliment each other well in dialogue. I agree with others that she should be a routine guest, if she can find time. I
  • As a guy who has several women who request suggestions for influence, thank you for providing a source for their inspiration I will be sharing this with those ladies in my life Its been otherwise difficult to find them examples of what i think is a rare and special female attitude/mentality/capable capacity since it is so rare
  • It was wonderful to finally get to spend some time with your better half. She has such calm energy and I hope we hear more from her ❤

Been listening for a while and have loved hearing all the insanely different military perspectives, but now hearing from your wife and her passions and your questions being answered has been a nice and refreshing point of view on parts of our world. Glad to see you continuing to grow your podcast. Love tuning in and discussing ideas and opinions brought up on the podcast with friends and family. Keep fighting the good fight, Mr. Stumpf.
  • Great Vid Andy, I love your wife. Leah is such a humble person, but has been through so much as you have. Strength through adversity, I love it !

This episode was such a joy. I’ve been hoping you’d have Leah on for so long. You did a fantastic job interviewing her in a way that let us get to know her. She’s absolutely wonderful and such a strong ambassador for female athletes. You two are so natural together and I couldn’t stop smiling. Thank you so much and please have her back on.
