The parcel shelf at the rear ..or "shade" as you call it, fits upside down under the rear floor panel for easy storage. The centre hump is because it is a CMA chassis designed for ICE Transmission and BEV. In the EV, the battery is flat underneath and also under rear seats plus inside that hump .. so the "hump" is fully utilised and not unused space. The steering Pilot assist can be permanently turned off - I also find any kind of steering assist annoying even dangerous and, thankfully, it can all be turned off and stays off by default when restarted. This vehicle also has the best "One Pedal Driving" of any vehicle I've tried ... can't remember the last time I used the brake pedal 🙂
  • Mike, I enjoy all your videos and this one is no exception. There are several reasons for that: 1) you focus on how aspects of the car affect overall driving pleasure; 2) you are very thorough; 3) you don't get bogged down in technical details or high-speed driving dynamics; 4) you consider the importance of different features or aspect (e.g., range) for different types of drivers; 5) you don't waste time with car comparisons; 6) the length of the videos are about right; and 7) the little yellow finger-pointing hand is very cool. At one point you were talking about how nice it was to be cruising down the highway in a sea of music with tremendous power at the ready. (Perhaps you were thinking of the adaptive cruise as well.) That is perhaps the most important take-away from your review, considering the amount of time one spends commuting, running errands and so on. Many reviewers waste time demonstrating how the car performs in the twisties, begging the question of whether most buyers of SUV's care a twit about that. When I test-drove the C40 (I have one on order) my overall impressions were similar to yours, but in addition to that the car felt super-tightly-built--if readers know what I mean--with no squeaks or rattles and I loved the commanding driving position, the seat comfort and the implementation of the one-pedal driving. The last (which is not adjustable, just on or off) is very similar to that on the BMW i3 I've owned for the past five years, which I consider perfect. It's perhaps worth noting that that the Fjord ("fee-ord") Blue interior is not the only choice. Charcoal is available for all trims. The interior blue is only available for the Plus and Ultimate trims with the faux-leather seats (as in the test car), for exterior colours other than Fusion Red and Sage Green. "Tailored Wool" seats (my choice, see bit.ly/3uAsbdz) is an option with the Plus and Ultimate trims. That option includes an Orrefors crystal gear shifter.

Enjoyed your detail review Mike. In have a 2023 XC40 Recharge on ordered so many information are applied to me. Thanks!
  • @tomweekes5602
I have just bought one of these cars. I can relate to everything that has been said. Good job!
  • GOOD VIDEO! Some REAL WORLD information, lighting, doors and the like. The center hump is a relic of the fact that the body was a gas car first
  • @erondrahs397
I had this for a rental. FANTASTIC VEHICLE!!. I was very sad to return it!. 😢
  • @tomweekes5602
btw the pilot assist can now be controlled from the steering wheel.
  • @robc7563
Thanks for the video! Really like the C40, but for 2023 the roof is no longer blacked out…doesn’t seem as nice….thoughts?
  • @SBKPete
I have a C40, and I agree with your comments on the rear camera. Your vision is very limited Also, thanks for the tip on the speed limiter increment advice. I didn’t know that 😂
  • @dogbsas
Another car I like but I cant buy hahaha. I had an XC40 for two years and I liked it. It wasn't perfect but I liked it. I wont get involved in a nother expensive lease but....I would...
  • @Mirror1973
Thank you Mike! My only concern (as I live in FLorida!) is the fixed glass roof with no shade, looking at your video, I can see the sun shining quite bright inside
  • a lot of counterfeit dollar haha 😄, nice video, very clear and informative
  • @kentalstrup9699
I love the center console. A nice place to rest my leg. I don’t need to see my pedal. I know where it is.😂 but i understand your point of view. Although it’s not an issue for me. Got the same “Issue” on my Polestar 2
