Secretariat still holds all three Triple Crown track records. That's just incredible. The greatest horse to ever live. PERIOD.

Thanks so much for this post. There's so little opportunity to learn about the really great events in the history of horseracing.

That sudden burst in the beginning is so awesome it is almost as impressive as the belmont. Almost.
  • @udhoop
One of the most amazing performances I have ever seen...man or animal! I cry everytime I watch the Belmont!

I really love watching this. Agree that this is the best SportCentury. I would love to have this on DVD.
  • That move in the Preakness was just amazing. Reeling 'em on the turn. Stunning.

Your accolades to this amazing athlete is truly warranted and brought back some great memories. The magnificent Big Red will always bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye when I think of him. Thanks for posting such a terrific tribute.

I love that headline, perfect for him... "RED ROSES FOR SECRETARIAT !!"
  • @NYCBostero
"another 1/4 of a mile and he would have flown" So true lol

That's why I love watching this race over and over again. I've NEVER seen any horse race with this burst of speed like it was straight out a fictional movie. It's absolutely incredible to watch him overtake every horse from the outside as if the other horses are racing in slow motion. "Superhorse" is really a well deserved title:-)

Secretariat was truly nature's gift to us all.
  • @bg147
Not sure why, but this video always chokes me up.
  • Great~even awesome documtary on Secretariat ! Love it for sure! We will never see another Secretariat in my lifetime, at least not in the next 50 yrs I'm sure! He was just too good, too phenomenal to be real, at least in my mind. We need to promote racing somewhat in this fashion! Love it and need to let people know about how awesome it can be. Been on the backside, been there, done that....but there is nothing quite like watching a very good horse race! <3 "Go Baby Go!:

God decided to create only one perfect horse and that horse was Secretariat. He still holds the record for all 3 triple crown races. In 2012 the racing authorities held a hearing to review his run in the Preakness, after all the reviews his time was changed to even faster so he now holds the record in the Preakness. RIP BEAUTIFUL BOY YOU WERE AND ARE SO LOVED AND YOU TRULY ARE MISSED.

I was nine years old that summer and I still cry when I watch videos of him...a once in a lifetime occurence, unfortunately. The horse with the Big Heart - figuratively and literally!

In 1973, I was 14 years old, and it was Secretariat that started me on my way toward my lifelong passion for thoroughbred racing!! There's an old saying that they save the best for last? Not in this case. Because he was the first horse that I ever started following his races, and I know I won't ever see any better again in my lifetime!! His 31 length Belmont Stakes victory is still the closest thing to perfect that you'll ever see anywhere on a racetrack.
