This tutorial will demonstrate how to Port Forward your Xbox One console to open your NAT. This will allow you to have a more reliable connection, and let you connect with more players.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

"My Xbox is now showing me having a Strict NAT after doing all these steps!"
You just need to power cycle your Modem, Router, and Xbox. You do this by unplugging all 3 from the wall for about a minute, then plugging in your Modem and letting its lights come on. Then plug in your router and wait a minute for it to start up. Then finally plug in your Xbox and turn it on. This will have cleared the cache and things should be working fine now.

"My Xbox says my NAT is open, but Call of Duty says it is Strict/Moderate!"
The ports we forward in this video are for Xbox LIVE and popular applications. Certain games may require additional ports to be forwarded. For example, Call of Duty will additionally need port 3075 opened.

"It worked for my one Xbox, but not my other Xbox!"
Port Forwarding reserves ports for a single IP address. No two devices on a network can have the same IP address. Thus, your two Xboxes cannot share the same IP, and then cannot have the ports reserved for both of them. Instead, look for a setting called "UPnP" (Universal Plug n Play) which is very similar to Port Forwarding, but opens the ports for whatever IP address requests transmission on that port.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about making a "Frequently Ask Questions / Common Problems" follow-up video to answer several of the questions and comments I've received from you all. I didn't realize that this video would receive such attention, but here we are 130,000 views later! If this is something you would like, please comment and let me know if it would be worth my time. I'm also thinking about making an updated version of this video featuring the new Xbox dashboard (though the process is still the same), and this time I can demonstrate the Port Forwarding process on a Netgear router. Let me know if that is also something you would be interested in.

your video is the ONLY one that helped me. thank you. I appreciate it
  • I cannot thank you enough for uploading this video and being clear in your process. I've been dealing with a moderate nat type for two days and had an xfinity technician come to my house to try and fix the problem. It went no where. I followed the steps in your video and had the open nat type after the hard reset and wall unplug. Thank you for doing in 18 minutes what xfinity could not do in a 2 hour phone call and a technician house visit. PS- When you mentioned the secondary DNS address listing from your cmd/command prompt, it listed 75.75.76.76 and you accidentally said 75.75.75.76. i used the 75.75.76.76 and it was fine, i noticed because my settings were the same. just a heads up.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I contacted Xbox support but they gave me these ports and said I could either get me ISP to do it or I could do it. BUT IT WORKED!!!! And if anyone out there has a Dlink router like me, don't go to the port forwarding setting, go to the virtual server setting above it. Hope this helps someone
  • @kullboy94
Worked for me. Took me under an hour to do it, my NAT type is now open. I tried the power cycle like you explained but that didn't work so I just did a reset in the power settings and it reset the NAT type just fine. Thank you so much for the video
