Go Here to Download Your Book - www.myboxingcoach.com/ - A great way to instil head movement is boxing head movement drills. And a great way to build boxing head movement drills is to model those drills on the skills of one of the finest boxers you'll see - Salvador Sanchez.

In the most recent video I produced, I defined my 5 fearsome factors of the Salvador Sanchez boxing style. One of those fearsome factors was Sanchez's ability to seamlessly combine his punching with fantastic head movement - the Salvador Sanchez roll if you like.

Based upon that particular Sanchez skill, I've designed 3 boxing head movement drills to help you bit and not be hit - kind of the point of boxing.

These drills use only 4 skills, but, the bigger picture is to enable you to transpose other skills to give you lots of variations. The key principles work regardless of the particular skills or boxing defences that you use.

The 4 boxing head movement drills are:

Drill 1 - Jab with the inside roll
Drill 2 - Right cross with the outside roll
Drill 3 - Jab with the outside roll
Drill 4 - Right cross with the inside roll

So those drills provide the principles. There is flow and counter-flow in respect of the type of punch and the defense deployed. You can evolve the boxing drills to include any punches and pretty much any of the other defences.

For example you could use the close range left hook and the inside roll. Or you could use the close range left uppercut and the roll outside. Or the duck, or the slip.

The you can add more punches, so 2 shots, or even 3. Build in the concept of moving the head after the punches.

Do the boxing head movement drills and get the benefits, and we can thank Salvador Sanchez for the inspiration.

Cheers

Fran

That Pablo Picasso quote was pure gold! "Learn the rules like a professional, so you can break them like an artist."

In addition, another thing that I think really helps with head movement is just sparring. When you start sparring regularly, you get used to seeing punches coming at you and what the different punches look like..

I've been boxing for a while. At first, I watched many YouTube channels and couldn't tell who was good and who wasn't. Now I know just how correct and great you are at teaching the important fundamentals to great boxing technique. My coach is fantastic and you brilliantly teach the principles that he's teaching me; coordinating hands with the feet, small concise movements, and so on.
  • I've been focusing a lot on defense. Learning so much from coach Anthony and frans sand. It boosts your confidence when sparring!!! You'll go in the ring knowing that you wont get hit as much. Focus on defense fellas
