  • I originally saw this some time ago. However, it is a message worth repeating--especially in our current times.

I’ve been listening to Tim Keller for many years, and saw the conversation on 2 Timothy between the two of you, so I figured I’d listen to your sermons as well. This is the best one so far
  • This is a parable of the rich man and the poor man - it simply summarize that we should live a godly life before our time is up!
  • Ever notice how Jesus refers to Lazarus, a poor and suffering man forgotten in society, by name and not the rich man? ;)

Thankful to that the rich man may have seen Lazarus but it never said that Lazarus saw him.

This was interesting and probably typical of western evangelical thinking but he completely missed it on this one. The rich man in the story is Israel. Judah was blessed above his brothers by Jacob and the scepter was promised never to depart from his descendants. Thus the faring sumptuously and being dressed in purple and fine linen. Judah (representing Israel and thus the rich man) had five brothers, Leah had six sons. Israel was to be a blessing to all nations which they failed to be. They excluded the Gentiles (dogs) and the Gentiles only got crumbs of God's kingdom from the table of the Jews. Lazarus in the story is the Gentiles, getting crumbs of the kingdom. Lazarus is in the Greek language a partial derivative of the name Eliezer, who was Abram's beloved servant (close to his side or in his bosom). Eliezer would have inherited Abram's wealth had not God given him Isaac as an heir. Eliezer was a Gentile from Damascus. Abraham in the story was himself. This was not a story about the afterlife and heaven of hell. It was an indictment of the religious Israel that failed to be a blessing to the nations and kept the things of God to themselves. Israel was cut off and have been in torment while the Gentiles were included and the good news of the kingdom has been going forth as a blessing to all nations through them. One day, Israel will be grafted back in to their native tree and all Israel will be saved. That is what this parable prophesied and it is still being fulfilled.

Is this a good place to learn from? I'm looking for a a group of peers, new to or reconfirmed faith. I am not looking for sermons

If the heart is of greed, it can not share and has already obtained its false wealth Knowing God is the greatest wealth and can not be measured. So, the man with false wealth got the treasures of his heart without God. Understanding charity, Charity is not giving to some organization Charity is giving of oneself with perseverance without need of repayment.

The rich man didn't go to hell because he never helped Lazarus or others who didn't have their needs during their lifetime but rather, the rich man went to hell because of his unbelief and Lazarus didn't go to heaven because he never stole from the rich man or others just to have his needs and probably his wants during his lifetime but rather, Lazarus went to heaven because of his belief on what the Lord Jesus Christ did for him on the cross for his sins.
