  • “Students who acquire large debts putting themselves through school are unlikely to think about changing society. When you trap people in a system of debt . they can’t afford the time to think. Tuition fee increases are a “disciplinary technique,” and, by the time students graduate, they are not only loaded with debt, but have also internalized the “disciplinarian culture.” This makes them efficient components of the consumer economy.”
  • I want reparation for my stock portfolio, my 401k, my IRA, my gas prices, my electric bill and my grocery prices.
  • Its ok to bail banks , businesses etc etc. But not ok to bail individuals that better themselves for a better life? Yup it checks out
  • Student debt isn't about irresponsible young people taking out more loans than they'll be able to pay back. It's about a corruption cycle between loan companies, lobbyists, and our lawmakers, designed to make them rich and powerful — AT YOUR EXPENSE.
  • Oof almost had it but hey you can try again next election season and who knows they might even pay off double the amount haha but you have to make sure to vote democrat for this to happen 🤣
  • I had a fulltime job while I was a college student for four years and am now in grad school at Yale and unable to let myself enjoy because I'll owe around $100,000 in student loans afterwards. The only way I can see myself being able to pay it off is if I work for an non-profit and make very little money for ten years and get loan forgiveness. There's this belief that we aren't working hard enough or aren't being financially responsible and that's why our loans are insane. That isn't the case, I literally have no social life because I don't have the budget for one. I go to class, study, work, repeat. I had a full time job and still managed to do 1,120 hours of community service during undergrad, I gave back to my community and worked hard. I wasn't just some kid partying in the dorms, most of us don't because of how stressful this is. You literally cannot get a job in the field I want to go into (infectious disease control, pretty important) without at least a graduate degree. I've had to officially decide not to pursue the job path I've studied to do for six years because I can't afford to get a clinical degree and take out more loans. I was responsible with my money, I am responsible with my money, but I'm only 24 years old and owe more money than parents' house cost just to get an education. I feel like I can't breathe from the pressure all the time. So to the people who are (incorrectly, seriously look up how this is paid for) saying this is coming out of their paycheck and we're selfish, have some empathy.
  • Pay your own debt like everybody else. I have to put my kids through college before anybody else’s kid.
  • It should not be on the taxpayers to pay off someones student loan,,How about these students pay off all the tax paying citizens loans..
  • @crikch
students back in the 80s and 90s did not have to go to higher education thinking about how they're gonna get out of debt the rest of their lives. it was the government's decision to put that weight upon college student's shoulder.. think about that.
