In this episode, my guest is David Goggins, retired Navy SEAL, highly accomplished ultramarathoner, best-selling author, and influential public speaker.

David explains how he mastered his inner dialogue to build extraordinary levels of discipline and mental and physical toughness.

He describes how confronting his early hardships, including physical and mental abuse, learning disorders, and obesity, became a practice of deep and excruciating self-reflection — eventually allowing him to transmute those experiences into a superhuman work ethic.

This conversation is a unique window into David Goggins’ process in that it focuses both on the underlying science and how David manages and directs his inner dialogue.

It’s a conversation that will inform and inspire anyone wondering how exactly to go about building discipline and confidence and reach their potential.

Note: This conversation includes profanity. Some content might not be suitable for all audiences and ages.

What a wonderful way to start the new year!
  • 2 months later, this episode literally changed my life. I go for the suck everyday, working out 6 days a week, signed up for half an ironman, and keep on fighting everyday for that perishable skill. 8 months go, i started changing my life around, since then I lost 55 pounds, started cooking, stopped smoking and drinking and did my first triathlon. Let me tell you that this podcast locked in this mindset for the rest of my life. I will never be able to thank you both enough for
  • @waltpro1945
I think the big takeaways from Goggins' life are 1) life sucks, so embrace it 2) you just gotta do it. No more books or seminars. Getting it done is the only way to do get it done.

Bloody hell. What an explosive start to 2024. Kudos to Andrew, one of the most useful podcasts around.
  • @thomastremel9998
Huberman and goggins came together to create the most legendary podcast in existence
  • Goggins has changed so many lives including my own, I was at 300 pounds smoking drinking living in my parents basement. I’ve now accepted the challenge of the marines and I’m down to 277 and I ship off to boot camp on march 24th.

This guy is a multimillionaire. He doesn’t need to grind. He keeps grinding and being useful to other people. This is someone to look up to. This guy is a real life hero.
  • @benjaminlandrail
"I realized that my entire life was gonna be a struggle, so I ignored it". For all the neurotic people like me out there, this is the best advice possible. Just accept that you're always going to be anxious and miserable, and use it as a fuel to do something worthwhile. Thank you, David Goggins and Dr. Huberman for an immensely inspiring episode.

This podcast single-handedly ended the entire self-help industry. So many questions have been answered here. Now just do it!
  • @heddle
I have never met a man who held the convictions, self discipline, and mindset of my father. He, too, had only himself and overcame unimaginable obstacles, also. You are such a man. Thank you.
  • @ashersage5043
I’m “49 and a multi millionaire. I don’t have to do anything.” Blows my mind hearing that flex. He is right. He’s accomplished so much and is STILL pushing a piece of himself. Paramedic? A multi millionaire moving into being a paramedic? Amazing David. Love this man! Thanks for inspiring us DAILY

"What are you willing to give up to find every bit of who you are as a human being?" Damn i felt that.

I believe that not everyone should be placed in front of a microphone and speak their mind. There are so many people that are hurting this already very damaged world and society, especially in the mess that the USA is in right now. But David Goggins is truly a godsend. The world needs more of him. I know some people will read this and think it's a stretch, but if we all had even a little of the will and discipline David has, imagine how much better things could be, for everyone. But only the selected few will hear messages like this and actually make it a living reality, so it becomes actual legimate proof for the rest. That it can be done, and if your drive is right, it WILL be done. I'm at a point where I have lost all hope in life. And I'm glad I did, because as David says, I also don't live off the hope factor anymore. As a woman, I spent years of my life pouring into people, situations, that completely drained me and left me broken, alone, and depressed. All because of hope. Because I hoped things would get better. Because I hoped this and that would happen. But life is brutal, and despite my best efforts to be good, I was dealt shit fucking cards. But I will rise from the ashes of everything reality burned for me. Videos like this really do change a person's life. I'm grateful that during a time where I find myself the most lonely and depressed I've ever been, there are people like David that remind you that despite the suck, the only way out is through it. This pain and the pain I have gone through in the past will mold me. I don't care to be successful, rich, and famous. All I want is to someday conquer my crippling depression and broken heart and say I fucking did it. I'm at the bottom of the pit right now, but someday I know I will look down at the pit, and I'll be strong enough to keep myself from falling in it. And next time, instead of expecting someone, especially someone I once loved more than life itself, to catch me... I will catch myself, take accountability, and fight through the suck. Instead of succumbing to it. I'm not waiting anymore, I'm not hoping anymore for someone to save me. I'm not waiting for my knight to come. I will be my own knight, my own warrior, because it truly is me versus me. I am beyond grateful for this video. It's come at a point where I needed it more than ever. I know this may sound dramatic to some, but this video saved my life. When all else has failed for me, I finally found someone who understands the suck but pushes on. It's what I've dreamt of doing, I just didn't know it was possible. But I'll see to it myself. I'm a depressed lazy piece of shit now, but someday I'll come back to this comment and see how far I've come. Thanks to anyone who read this through. I'll use this to hold myself accountable. Here's to embracing the suck and going through it instead of finding ways around it. We can do it. We can do anything we set our mind to. If you're in a pit, I pray you'll find your way out of it, too. It's not where you're meant to be. Believe that. And just fucking do it. Although these messages seem more geared towards men, I hope David knows his messages work on women, too. Here's to being the best you can fucking be. Stay hard
  • I was on my level up journey when I started to read Cant Hurt Me and man… it really hit me. All this journey, all alone, was so difficult but this book helped me to develop my own voice, to be my own cheerleader. I also understand when he says « I have to do it because I am not like this » he have to show up everyday to not return to David Goggins. I feel that in my soul because it’s the same for me. I was lazy, I was not able to finish what I’ve started, I had plenty of traumas to heal, I was weak AF… Now I show up everyday and it’s crazy the effect it had on my brain. Even when things go wrong, I feel the emotion but I am never overwhelmed by it. To become stronger is really the most beautiful thing you can do for yourself. ❤
  • Andrew is not only a great podcaster but a phenomenal listener. What a great way to start the year
  • @zeffery101
WORD OF ADVICE : the mindset of a hard worker doesn't care that today is January 1. Doesn't matter what day it is. You put in as much energy today as you do on March 8 and October 23. Its everyday for the rest of your life and the faster you learn to be ok with that, that easier it gets. Stay hard!
  • @byteme1813
I fell asleep while watching this episode and woke up to my girlfriend’s dog doing push-ups
  • @BrooklynJared
I’ve listened to this podcast probably 5 times already, read both of his books (including currently reading Never Finished for the third time), and this man is a class act, defying all odds. One hard motherfucker. Every time I complain my life is hard, or how my childhood “set me up for failure” I humble that little bitch inside of me real quick. There’s no damn excuses. This man went through his childhood being beat by his own father, seeing people he loved die all around him, and dealt with sickening racism and how did he answer his fucked up childhood? Going from being obese and letting his demons eat him alive to chasing those mother fucking demons, losing over 100 pounds in 3 months, joining the Navy Seals, going through 3 hell weeks in a year, running over 200 mile runs, and that’s just naming a few of his accomplishments. I’m just at the start of project: get my damn life together, and this man’s story is truly inspiring to anyone going through hard times, or those who grew up with a rough childhood that drags them down to this day. Goggins, you’re one bad motherfucker. Stay hard. I look forward to meeting you one day, brother.
