I feel like Wendigoon is warning us that he's gonna mummify himself soon
  • What a tragedy it was when Wendi, in his house, was found dead and perfectly preserved several months later, and in his hands was a box of Magic Spoon and a can of Monster...
  • this man literally makes his living off being a cereal salesman what a legend
  • Somehow this made me think of my father. He lived with 2 forms of cancer for almost 20 years, 15 years longer than was expected. The cancer had spread to just about every tissue in his body. It got to the point where his body could no longer process proteins very well. He had just about no body fat and very little muscle. He had sunken, bruised looking eyes. The man was like a walking skeleton. But he was still walking. He had inoperable, necrotic tissue starting in his chest that he lived with for about 2 years. I swear to god he lived on willpower alone. When he started to decline mentally he went very quickly, as if he had decided he was done and was allowing nature to take him; within 10 days he was gone, when he had lived through so much for so long. It's amazing what the human body can live through.

Thank you Mr Wendigoon for this self-mummification tutorial! Can't wait to try it

Semi-related fun fact: the red spider lily is a very symbolic flower in Japan associated with death and graveyards. This is because all parts of the red spider lily are highly toxic, so people would plant them on top of freshly buried graves to prevent scavenging animals from digging up the bodies.

I am loving his “slow descent into madness” storyline running through each magic spoon add
  • @I_Stole_A_BTR-80
I love how if you died they didn't think "maybe he just didn't approach this whole slow starvation thing correctly" they were instead just like "I guess the universe declares you cringe and not a Chad, better luck next reincarnation"
  • I "met" Luang Pho Daeng in 2011 with absolutely NO context 😂 Cruising around Koh Samui on a hired moped, I stopped on the side of the road to have a drink. A little girl grabbed my hand and led me over to the box with him sitting in it; just sat out in the courtyard of this temple. She emphatically spoke to me in Thai (explaining how he came to be there I assume) and pointed at his sunglasses, then at mine and laughed while she tried mine on. Then she led me over to a station where she washed my hands, directed my hand to rub & ring a gong that was hanging there, and then led me back to my moped. She forced my helmet back on my head, smacked the top, shouted BYEEEEEE and then ran off giggling. I think about that encounter a lot. That little girl made my day, but boy was it strange to see kids playing football with this dead guy wearing sunnies just chillin in a box next to them 😂
  • I love how a nice short and light video for Wendigoon has become a 30 minute video on people starving and burying themselves alive. I hope this channel never changes 🥰
  • @devonandre100
Man, I can't believe Wendigoon was found buried alive in a box with a bell and a bamboo shoot while sitting in a lotus position. Crazy how that can happen.

As someone born and raised Buddhist, thank you for not sensationalizing the concept of self-mummification and taking the time to explain that it's an uncommon practice in Buddhism and being generally respectful :) . NGL, I was afraid at first that it wasn't going to be explained properly but you did a fantastic job!
  • Dude drops a fantastic 5-hour video and is back a week later without missing a beat. Absolute legend
  • A little correction. The monk with the sunglasses didn't undergo self mummification as that practice was limited to a small corner of Japan as you said. While the monk in question was a renouned monk from southern Thailand. His body just kinda ended up not decomposing on its own after his death. Many other cases of devout monks not rotting post death in Thailand actually, almost every province has at least one.

What I found very interesting about this is even though it was considered a branch of Buddhism, their actions contradicted the words of the Buddha. He taught against self starvation and extreme practices like it, and the body was viewed as a temporary vessle as all things are so the need for mummification is not necessary. It's always so interesting to see how off-shoots of relgions develop and how the time period effects it. Cool video!
  • Wendigoon is the only person to wear a Hawaiian T Shirt while talking about a morbid topic like Self-Mummification.
  • @Bababooey887
The Japanese banning self mummification because it's "barbaric, glorified suicide". Also the japanese in WW2: "I am the weapon"
  • I can't even lie, I think self mummification is sooooo fascinating as a concept. I'm honestly really happy you went so in depth and used a long form video for it
  • I really like his ad segments. Always watching the entire thing. Being entertaining is part of his personality. He doesn't suddenly become a sell out and all serious when the ad segments come up. They flow nicely with the rest of the video's vibe.
